Another way to save money while grocery shopping is do it ALONE! I find that when I shop by myself, I stick to my list much better and pay attention to my deals. It is easier to not give into the temptation to just shut your child up/husband up and let them have something that isn’t on THE list. They can also cause you to lose your concentration, forget an item on your list, forget a coupon, mess up deals, not pay attention at the register, etc. If you are just starting out, it is BEST if you do it alone or with someone who won’t distract you.
So when I do have to take the kids shopping with me (trust me, I try to do this as little as possible), this is when I need these phrases taped on a loop – it would save me a lot of energy by just taping it and replaying it.
No, it is not on our list.
No, we don’t have a coupon for it.
No, it is not on sale.
The kids have gotten better. They do try to claim something is on sale just because it has a yellow sticker next to it. ha ha, like I’m going to fall for THAT.
They can be helpful at times. Like when I put them on a mission to find coupons. They are good at that. Sometimes too good. Like, I need 15 blinkie coupons. They also like to help load the grocery on the conveyor belt. But then we are at the place of meltdowns….the candy aisle. Why do grocery stores have to do that to us?
Inspired by Goo Goo Buy Buy (She is a much better story teller than I!) – Amy tells her story about howshe spends more when her family comes along.
How do you do your shopping? Do you prefer to shop with your family? With a friend? I’d love to hear your stories!
