Kmart Super Doubles 11/30 to 12/6

by Bargain Briana on November 30, 2008

Because of the way the Kmart computer system works, my BIG suggestion to minimize the hassle is to give your coupon as your item as scanned as opposed to giving all your coupons at the end. It will also help you to know if your coupons doubled correctly. As some people are reporting that an item $3.99, with a $2/1 coupon will not double - it was redeemed at face value - $2. I did not have this issue. My coupon was redeemed at $2 and doubled @ $1.99, making the item FREE - total coupon value $3.99. So keep an eye on the register and give your coupons as they scan the item to make things easier for everyone! (If you scroll to the bottom, you will see more of the Kmart doubling “rules.”)

Sign up for Kmart’s Email alerts and receive a $5/$50 coupon in your email. (Note: These do expire pretty quickly so sign up wisely!)

Go through your coupons and see what high dollar coupons you have!!!

Here’s a few rules:

  • Coupon doubling cannot exceed price of item.
  • No cash or instore credit awarded for any amt. exceeding retail price of item.
  • Limit 1 coupon per item. (DOH!)
  • Only 1 coupon doubled per item. (Which is kind of confusing with the next one…)
  • Can only purchase 4 of the same items using double coupons. (I’m thinking you can use 4 different coupons for 4 items but they won’t double 2 of the same coupon for the same item???)
  • Excludes Buy 1 Get 1 Free Offers.
  • Does not apply to sales tax.
  • Limit 75 coupons per customer per day.
  • Internet coupons or copied manufacturer coupons not valid.
  • Excludes items limited by law - including alcohol, tobacco, and prescription medication.
  • Not valid on non-merchandise, federal or state regulated items, prior purchases, Land’s End, Sears merchandise rung on Sear registers within Kmart and kmart.com.
  • If you return an item, coupon amount may be deducted from refund.

OK I’m a total spaz. To confirm:
I can use any coupon at all-it doesn’t matter what the value is. It doubles up to the price of the item. Correct?
And I can use whatever coupons I want-I have, for example, a suave $1 off. If the suave lotion is $1.99 at kmart, my coupon gets it for me for free.
Am I correct?

saras last blog post..What I am Thankful For….

2 Bargain Briana 11.30.08 at 6:23 pm

yep, you can use any coupons you have and they will double up to $2…so a $2/1 coupon will double to an incredible $4!!!

a .55 will also double to $1.10, etc. etc.

3 Steph 11.30.08 at 8:42 pm

Great job on the list! You are so organized.
I also got Visine 9/30 rp and Reach Dental Floss(not sure, maybe 10/12rp) free.
Dove Hairspray $.79 10/12 rp
Renu Multipurpose Travel Contact Lens Rinse $.29 ($1.50 coupon in another Renu)
Zantac 30 was on sale with $1.50 off and a $5 mail in rebate from a previous week to make a $.51 overage. (found coupon on product but also 11/09 s)
Purina Healthful Life Cat food free. (coupon expired today)

You had a great post and I knew I didn’t have the time to do the same. Thanks for all your work on it!

5 Karla 12.01.08 at 2:20 am

I went to k-mart today, and tried to give the cashier one item and 1 coupon at a time; however she stated to me that all coupons had to be rung up toward the very end. Big mistake! When she had finishing ringing up my items, and she started scanning the coupons a screen kept popping up everytime prompting the cashier to apply each seperate coupon to the the item purchased . There in lies the problem. Since she had already bagged the items, she didn’t know, which items corresponded to the particular coupon. On top of that, the various selections on the screen were abbreviated so she could n’t tell which item button to select. Several times I caught her selecting the wrong item, and when I told her, she simply shrugged it off, and kept on pushing buttons. She didn’t seem to care at all. I should have know something like this was going to happen. Her unfriendly demeanor at the very begining spoke volumes. This was the first time, that I have shopped at kmart in like 10 years, I did not enjoy this experience at all. I really wanted to speak to the manager, but it was late, it was raining/snowing, and I had run out of patience, so I left the store. When I came home, I looked at my receipt and low and behold, there were 4 coupons $2.00 off each, that were not doubled. So, I’m planning on going tommarrow to talk to a mananger. I probably will not be coming back as a customer on a regular basis, maybe just on super doubles, and only if I’m allowed to do the 1 item and 1 coupon scenario.

6 Bargain Briana 12.01.08 at 10:31 am

Karla - Sorry that happened. I know you can try to suggest things to cashiers and sometimes they don’t care…sorry that happened! I would go and talk to the manager also and suggest they train their employees a little better. The system where if you give them the item with the coupon works the best and saves them work. For anyone else who tries, I would highly suggest you mention the coupon as it as scanned. Tell the cashier it will make it go smoother for her and you….you can just say from your past experience. Sorry!

7 Steph 12.01.08 at 11:07 am

My store scanned them all at the end with no problems.
One coupon would not work but there was no reason that the cashier, manager or I could see so the manager told her how to enter it manually. She only put it in for $1. When I told her it should be doubled she asked the manager “Are we doubling coupons today”? I thought that was kind of funny but maybe she just started her shift.

8 Tammy H 12.01.08 at 12:22 pm

Forgive me if you’ve already mentioned this deal-I didn’t see it listed. Kmart had Downy fabric softener 3/$9. When you purchased 3, they then gave you $5 off your total. I combined that with 3 coupons for .25, which doubled to .50 making my total for 3 bottles $2.50! Not free, but a very good deal I thought.

9 beth f 12.01.08 at 12:41 pm

i used internet coupons, and they took them! and worked!

10 Bargain Briana 12.01.08 at 12:51 pm

Beth - Cool! I didn’t try internet coupons because I wasn’t sure they worked!

Tammy - Unfortunately, the Downey coupons expired yesterday! But that was a good deal! But if you buy (3) at 3/$9 and get $5 on your next purchase, final cost is 3/$4 so not too shabby even without coupons!!!

11 crystal 12.01.08 at 1:08 pm

I went yesterday hoping to have better luck than last time but lo and behold it was the same. I got around $160 worth of stuff. With all Q’s it rang up $55 and I knew it wasnt right so I went to the car figured it up and then went back in to CS. They had to void the transaction and rering it up. After all was said and done I paid $25 and they gave me 2 Q’s for $5 off $50 and 6 $1 Oyno q’s. I am a glutten for punishment as I am going back one more time………lol.

12 Leslie 12.01.08 at 1:22 pm

Thank you so much for this list!! I’m going back! =) I also found Nestle Hot Cocoa mix for $1.99 and I had $1 coupons…it made them free. Also Daisy sour cream 8 oz. are $1.39 and I had $1 off coupons. Also Tic Tac chill was free after coupon.

13 Kristin 12.01.08 at 1:47 pm

Thank you so much for the information!! I was looking for general guidelines and your site has the best information!

Our closest Kmart is 30 minutes away, I am taking my mother in law and showing her the true power of the coupon!

14 sara 12.01.08 at 3:34 pm

So I just went…I’m just a coupon newbie but got:
Colgate 2 pack toothbrush 2.49, internet coupon $1
Colgate Kids toothpaste 3.19, coupon .75
Advil small bottle 4.39, coupon $1 (not so great but I’m learning!)
Brut deoderant 2.89 , $1 coupon
3 bags Hersheys 3 for $7, $1.50 off 3 coupon but it only doubled to some odd amount but I wasn’t going to fight (I’m a newbie, remember?)
Ziploc Steam bags, 2.79, $1 coupon
Wet Ones 2.59, .75 coupon
Bisquik 2.79, .60 coupon
2 Nestle Chocolate Chips, total 4.66, $1 coupon (not too great in retrospect)
cocoa crispies, on sale for 2.50, $1 coupon

So total was $37 before coupons, $18 after!

Not too bad for a newbie. Not as amazing as that woman who got $160 worth of stuff for $25 but I’m trying :)

Thanks!

Sara, great job. You saved over 50%. That is terrific. Keep it up; you’ll get more confident and will save even more in the future. It took me about 2 months to get the hang of everything. Don’t worry if you make a mistake during your transactions. Just walk out of the store and return items the next time you are at a store. That way you can enjoy your experience while you are learning to coupon. :)

16 Tracy 12.01.08 at 5:39 pm

By the way k-mart also takes and doubles all competitors coupons.

17 Tracy 12.01.08 at 5:45 pm

oops forgot to mention the good deal you could do with the competitors coupons. CVS has a beauty book i think it is called which has a coupon for $1 off dove chocolate bars and $1 off two gatorades. which would make both of these free at kmart. When i went to kmart on sunday I did have a problem with them not letting me do coupons that said you had to buy two products to get $1 off or however much. they said when they scanned the coupon it would just make it like buy one get one free which is no where as good as double coupon. This was the case for the ziploc containers which you got 1.50 off on two and the betty crocker potatoes $1/2 I never understood why they were doing it that way but I know it made it cost more. The ziploc containers where on sale for 2.5o and the coupon would have made both of them be $2 at the end but instead it took off the 1.50 plus 1.00 giving one item free and the other full price. Wish you guys could help me understand this one and let me know if your coupons for $/2 products worked.

18 Diane 12.01.08 at 6:08 pm

I had an experience similar to what “Karla” described. I tried to give the cashier a coupon for each item as it rang up, but she said the system would only take the coupons at the end. So it took FOREVER to check out. Thankfully, my cashier was very pleasant and thorough, so I didn’t notice any mistakes. The only problem I had was with a Revlon coupon that said “good on any color cosmetic product”. I had used the same coupon to buy nail polish at CVS without any trouble, but at K-Mart they said it could only be used on make-up. Oh, well, I still saved 68% on my total purchase!

19 Tracy 12.01.08 at 6:09 pm

ok. so sorry to keep posting but just contacted customer service about the $/2 products and they said that they don’t exceed the price of only one item even though you are buying two items and you are not exceeding the total of both. however that was not cool. so basically you will be using a $/2 coupon and actually be getting bogo free so beware.

20 Stephanie 12.01.08 at 8:42 pm

I bought some of the things you have on the list but you might also wanna check out the:
lifesavers 1.79 w $1 q = free
gerber snacks 2.00 w $1 home mailer q = free
Nailsaver sponges 1.99 w $1 q = free
lysol wipes 2.66 w $1 q = .66
oven bags 2.29 w $1 q = .29
Huggies baby wipes (in HBA section) 1.99 w $1 q = free
Reynolds wax paper 1.49 w .50 q = .49
Suave lotion 2.50 w $1 q = .50

Happy shopping !

21 Wendi P 12.01.08 at 10:30 pm

Thanks for all of the hard work! It helped a great deal while I was shopping today. I scored a few with small overages: Pert 13.5 oz $3.49 with a $2Q for a .51 cent overage was the best one. Then were several with a penny overage including Gillette BodyWash, Purina T-Bonz dog treats and the Ziploc vacuum pump starter kit. Many items I paid 50 cents for. This was the first time for doing doubles as none of our stores out here do them and all I can say is YAY!!!!!

22 Steph 12.01.08 at 11:08 pm

I went tonight to get the Glade. The shelf said $1.19 so it wouldn’t be free and I didn’t really need it and started to leave but got an idea. I ran a can under a scanner and it came up $.67! I had 2 q’s for $1/2. I got four cans but my bill came to $2.12. I figure it would have been $.16 tax. They told me it had something to do with B1G1 and there wasn’t anything they could do. The $2.12 didn’t make sense either. That would mean the shelf had one price, the scanner had another and the cashier yet another price! Needless to say, I scrapped it and asked for my coupons back.

23 Karla 12.02.08 at 7:55 pm

Hi Briana,
just an update, I went back to K-mart, and after getting absolutely nowhere with the ladies, behide the customer service counter, I asked to see the manager. One of them kept insisting that she couldn’t do anything about the four $2.00 coupons that hadn’t been doubled. She even had the gall to tell me “You should have looked at the receipt before you left, and came to customer service??” In my mind, a nucular bomb exploded, but on the outside I was a perfectly composed lady who simply asked to see the mananger again. Her commet “I don’t know why, he’ll just tell you the same thing!”. Customer service, indeed! Finally after waiting 10 minutes, the assistant manager came, I calmly explained my dilemma, and that I was owed $8.00. He agreed and told the one customer service rep (who btw had been the biggest protester of the bunch), to give me $8.00 in cash. In my mind, I was dancing “the running man” :) I believe Charlie Brown’s little sister said it best “All I want is what I have coming to me. All I want is my fair share” God Bless! :) Oh. by the way I still got a great deal I purchased $97 worth of stuff, that came out to $20.75 after the $8.

24 Jennifer 12.02.08 at 8:05 pm

Thanks everyone for the feedback.
Bummer about the $/2 coupons! Those were some of the ones I was hoping to use.

Let me make sure this is right: If the amount of a coupon doubles to MORE than the amount of an item on which it is used, EVEN IF you are buying two (and therefore not incurring overage) the discount reverts to a B1G1?

i.e., for the Ziploc containers, priced at $2.50, because the $1.50/2 doubles to $3.00, which is MORE than one item, but less than both, you get B1G1?

I don’t get the reasoning behind that at all.

25 Andrea @ Mommy Snacks 12.02.08 at 8:53 pm

I went tonight and your list is the best available!!!

I was a little perturbed with the registers calculations on the “on 2″ items. They only doubled to the value of the first so we couldn’t get the glade FREE basically. Oh well!

But, I had a few Downy coupons that doubled to $1 so I got 3 downy for $1 - the $5 credit is instant so I was stoked!!! I have a few more so I will try to go back and get them too!!

Thanks again, Briana!

26 Eden C. 12.03.08 at 10:57 am

Thanks for putting all this up! It is SO helpful!

This is my first time to coupon at KMart. We don’t have one near us, however Saturday we get to be in the area of one, so I was hoping we could stop by.

I did have a question though. I was wondering, if by the time everything is rung up & the cashier takes the coupons, even if the total is below 0, will they just 0 it out or do I need to get overage to fit in there? I couldn’t quite figure that out. Thanks!

27 Bargain Briana 12.03.08 at 11:48 am

The $1/2 is confusing. So it doesn’t end up free because they can’t apply it to both items, they can only apply it to one item? I don’t like that. BOO! :(

Eden - You shouldn’t have an overage because the coupon will only double to the value of the item. So if the value is $3.99 and you have a $2/1 coupon it will take off $2 and then double to $1.99. So it should end up zero. Keep a close eye on this though because if they don’t apply it to the right product, it won’t double correctly. Which is why I HIGHLY suggest giving the coupon as they scan the item…whether they like it or not! it will make everyone’s life much easier!!! Good luck and have fun saving!

28 Eden C. 12.03.08 at 12:52 pm

Ok! Thanks! I have a feeling they are going to hate me for giving them one at a time…;)

29 Bargain Briana 12.03.08 at 3:10 pm

Eden - If you have a grouping of the same items, you can hand them the coupons for that grouping…like 4 boxes of frosting…the system can handle that! :)

30 Eden C. 12.03.08 at 3:51 pm

Oh, ok. Thank you!

31 Amanda 12.05.08 at 7:19 pm

This is my first time using coupons at Kmart and I was excited that they would double up to $2. My Kroger doubles, but only up to .50 cents. I purchased a handful of the items from your list above and only had problems with the Glade coupon $1/2 like a lot of the other posters. I had the register lady scan the coupon after each item, even though she preferred to do it at the end. The Glade was .96 cents and they took of the $1.00 instead of doubling it to the $1.92 to get them both free. So, I did get the extra .04 cents rather than the exact B1G1 price. However, I did purchase Herbal Essences Shampoo at $2.89 and had $1/1 double to $2, so I only paid 0.89 cents for it. I had thought that the shampoo was actual $3.79 before coupons, so I made out getting it cheaper. I didn’t see this in the deals above, so it might add an extra item to some people’s shopping lists. Anyway, thanks for the list on your site. I have always liked using coupons and am a big sale/clearance shopper, but I never knew so many people were into couponing and at such great extent. I remember my mom and my best friends mom had shoe box sized coupon boxes they used when we I was a kid. My mom passed her couponing ways down to me. I love getting things at low prices and even better if free. I think I will stick to $/1 items when Kmart doubles again from now on though.

32 Amanda 12.05.08 at 8:13 pm

I also got Durex Condoms at $5.49 and had a $2/1 coupon doubling to $4 and paid $1.49 for it. I was embarrassed to add this deal, but someone else might want to know it.

33 Peony 12.06.08 at 3:20 am

Thanks Amanda! Don’t be embarrassed! Deals like this keep my husband and I from having our second child before he/she is planned! ;)
