NOW CLOSED: Book Giveaway: Christmas Sucks

If you're new here, you may want to have these bargains delivered right to your email or subscribe via RSS feed. If you are new to couponing, check out my series the "15 days of Couponing." Thanks for visiting!

From the author of Pregnancy Sucks, the newest book from Joanne Kimes,Christmas Sucks: What to Do When Fruitcake, Family, and Finding the Perfect Gift Make You Miserable is just in time for chaos of the holidays. This book is one of the only I’ve read that discusses the downside of the holiday in such a funny way. I was particularly fond of “Smelly Claus, Smelly Claus” section.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who gets overstressed at the holidays – which is most of us. It will give you many laughs while giving tips to make the holiday less stressful. I don’t recommend it for the perfect Martha Stewart/Bree VanDeCamp types, you may not find it as funny…ha ha ha! At only $8.96 (Amazon.com), this book would also make a perfect holiday gift for your fellow holiday-stressed friends.

You can read my full review HERE.

I’m also giving away a copy to one lucky reader!

What stresses me out about the holidays is the pressure to shop, shop shop.

Looks like a good book! This is my first married Christmas and I am stressed out about trying to get in time with all of our families and not making anyone (and by anyone, I mean my mother in law) upset.

What stresses me out is how busy I always seem to be in the run-up to the holidays, and not from things like shopping or wrapping gifts! I’d like to have more time to enjoy the spirit of the season.

I hate trying to get Christmas cards mailed on time. I’ve sent them out in January more than once!

Expectations of extended family. Living at a distance, we need to be everywhere for the big days … so we just don’t go anywhere.

11 Kandi December 2, 2008 at 1:10 pm

What is stressing me out this year is that we just purchased our first home last week and it has boxes everywhere! I also have 3 small kids, holidays to plan, decorations to put up, oh, my list goes on and on….

Looks like an interesting book. What stresses me out the most is when I agree with people that we won’t swap gifts and then they get me a gift anyway. Then I have to figure out if I get them something in return or just be thankful that they got me something.

What stresses me out about the holidays is setting the dates and details for our family holiday get-together. For some reasaon, it is very difficult to make the plans without offending someone–every year it happens!

17 zsera December 2, 2008 at 3:43 pm

what stresses me out the most is finding gifts for everyone within our budget.

18 Stephanie December 2, 2008 at 5:30 pm

Biggest holiday stressor- In laws! What do you buy the in laws? Hubby is no help and they simply buy everything they want! I feel like a cop out everytime I give pictures but, what else is there???

What don’t stress me out? I stress about “still paying for last Christmas” Decking the halls, when I really want to deck Santa, Trying to create a Normon Rockwell Christmas on a Ebineezer Scrooge budget! But oh don’t we all try to put the “J” in joy for all our loved ones. I just wish there was a way to time warp through Christmas…my luck it won’t even snow!

For me, it is shopping and traveling. We don’t own a car and rely on public transit which can be very stressful around the holidays, especially when we are already running late.

40 Chi December 5, 2008 at 4:31 pm

The only thing that stresses me about the holidays is the fact that it’s winter! All the ice and snow, crazy drivers on the road and lots of people travelling…. It’s nerve wracking! :)

Thanks for the great contest :)

When my husband says he will take of a gift, and then mentions he has not done anything about it .

“Yeah, I’ll pick up something for my mom.” Which actually means – you can figure out something at the last minute.

What stresses me out the absolute very most about the holidays, is the fact that the media, and peers, are inundating my children with messages of buy! buy! buy! when all I want for them is to understand what a wonderful thing Christmas really can be if you find the true meaning and story behind it. We are working on it!
