Upromise Tax Filing Savings with H&R Block & TurboTax

If you have never heard of Upromise, you must not be a regular reader of Bargain Briana. You can read about how much I love this FREE program in my past posts. Currently there are a couple of tax preparation promotions with H&R Block and TurboTax.

First you will need to sign up for Upromise. If you are already a member, you can go straight to the tax preparation promotion page. You can file your 1040 EZ, 1040A, or 1040 simple tax turens FREE with Turbo Tax. You will get $15 back in your Upromise account when you file your taxes with Tax Cut through H&R block. You can also earn $5 referrals for every friend you refer to Tax Cut up to 119 referrals.

It’s March and there are new Coupons.com and Upromise Coupons!

Yes, it is March already. Which, I’m welcoming as I’m ready for SPRING! So with the new month, we get new coupons from coupons.com. You will want to print out coupons you know you will need from coupons.com before they disappear! Some of the good ones have limited printing for the month so you will want to print those out quickly. You can read about how to save on ink while printing these fabulous coupons in my previous post “Tips for Printing Internet Coupons.”

Confused about Upromise eCoupons? Here’s what I do: I go into Upromise each month and activate all the eCoupon available, gloss over them, and make a small mental note. I don’t buy any of these products specifically for the eCoupon but if there is a deal out there and I happen to buy something at one of the participating retailers , I’m covered eCoupon-wise! You don’t have to specify a retailer, which makes it nice so you can use these at any of the participating stores. Make sure you have your loyalty cards updated with Upromise.

If you haven’t signed up for Upromise, what are you waiting for? Activate your account and link your every day spending to your Upromise account to begin saving for college. You don’t have to have a child to do this. You can use it to pay for past college expenses, future college expense, or current college expenses. It is a FREE program that earns you extra money for your child’s college, grandchild’s college, or anyone that you choose – even yourself if you are pursuing a college/technical degree.

Here’s how it works:

Sign up at Upromise,
Enter your grocery or drugstore loyalty cards (Marsh Fresh Idea Card, Kroger Plus Card, CVS Extra Care Card, etc.)
You then start automatically accumulating up to 8% on participating items you buy at these stores and you can do nothing else or you can do some of the other things to earn more money.

E coupons and Upromise – it works!!!

I told you about their E Coupon Program HERE. I’m pleased to say that it has worked wonderfully for me. I’ve earned over $5 in my Upromise account in two months with this program and this is without specifically shopping for any of the coupon items!

Here’s what I do: I go into Upromise each month and activate all the E Coupons available, gloss over them, and make a small mental note. I don’t buy any of these products specifically for the E Coupon but if there is a deal out there and I happen to buy something at one of the participating retailers , I’m covered E Coupon-wise! You don’t have to specify a retailer, which makes it nice so you can use these at any of the participating stores! Make sure you have your loyalty cards updated with Upromise.

What is great about these “E Coupons” is you can double dip! If you have a real coupon, you can still use that at the store and then you get the Upromise E Coupon Savings in your Upromise account on top of that!!

For November, there are offers from Nestle, Birds Eye Steamfresh, Johnsville, Listerine Cool Agent (CVS ECBs deal this month too!), Huggies, Charmin, Lysol, Clearsil, Bic Soleil and MORE!

Upromise & E Coupons

I received an email this week telling me about Upromise’s new program! I’m really excited about this! Basically, you add coupons to your loyalty cards for stores like Marsh, Meijer, CVS, Kroger/Owen/Hilander/Payless, etc. You select your coupons and then click activate! Make sure you have all your loyalty cards registered! From what I’m reading, it will not take it off your total but will be credited to your Upromise account which…LISTEN TO THIS….will allow you to “double dip” as you will still be able to used clipped coupons!

The offers will change monthly and the savings will be up to $25. How awesome! Plus, these are items you will earn a % on anyway just by scanning your card. How much better can Upromise be?

There are great coupons like $5 off Enfamil, $1.50 off Huggies, and MORE. I can’t wait to use this!!! If you are new to Upromise, check out my post blog entries about this AWESOME free program! BTW, Indiana’s College Choice plan is NOW moving to Upromise…so even better for my Hoosier friends! :)

Upromise Reminder….

For those of you who haven’t signed up for Upromise…you need to do it NOW! That is an order! MOM, that means YOU!!!! It is a FREE program that earns you extra money for your child’s college, grandchild’s college, or anyone that you choose – even yourself if you are pursuing a college/technical degree!

Here’s how it works:

Sign up by clicking on my link below on in my sidebar or the banners in this blog entry. (You will also be entered to win a $100,000 College Sweepstakes!)

Other ways to earn money through Upromise:

Shop online through Upromise using their links. Each merchant (they have 550 of them!) gives back a certain % to your account. If you are buying things online anyway, why not earn an extra little bit of cash! (1% to 25%)
Plan a trip. You can earn rewards through booking your travel.
Citibank Upromise Credit Card. You will earn a certain % of your spending each month. (up to 10%)
Buy a car. I recently received a flyer in the mail if you buy a VW minivan, you will earn $1,500 for your account.
Enter your debit & credit card information to get rewards on items you purchase at places like Eddie Bauer, Sears, etc.

How do you get your money?

You can set up a Upromise 529 College Fund through their website. You can then automatically link your Upromise account to your College Savings Fund and it will automatically put your earnings into that account when you have reached the threshold amount. (It is probably around $25.)

There are many nice things about 529 accounts. I have one set up for my children and that is where all their birthday and holiday money goes. I also put a little extra in it every month. The money in these accounts can be used for ANY child. You set it up in one child’s name and they don’t go to college, you can transfer it to another child with no penalty. You can use it for any college costs (college, trade school, anything accrediated.).

I will also say, my children’s 539 plan has give me a better return than my own retirement fund!

This website, Saving for College, has a WEALTH of information about 529 plans and how they can vary by state. Some states, like Indiana, will give a state tax deduction (20% on up to $5,000/year) if you contribute to the Indiana 529 plan, which is managed by JP Morgan. I should note that we have (2) 529 accounts set up. I have the Indiana 529 plan, which I’ve had FOREVER and giving me great returns. You can link the type of funds by the age level of your children so my youngest children are buying portfolios that are very aggressive. If you have older children, most likely they will set you up with more conservative funds. I also set up one through Upromise so that our Upromise account & 529 account could automatically be linked. You do not get a tax deduction on the Upromise Savings. Obviously, you should contact your own financial advisor to get the latest and greatest information!

Upromise – Savings for College

I’m sure many of you have heard of Upromise but are you using it? If not, you need to. It is FREE and it earns you money. Since I’ve been a member, I’ve earned over $500 for doing nothing extra but my basic shopping…at the minimum you need to sign up just to link your shopping cards (Marsh Fresh Idea Card, Kroger Plus Card, Meijer, and CVS ExtraCare Card.) You will get a % from participating grocery items! What is cool, is when you earn a percent on those freebies you are getting – double dipping!
