Will you pay for coupons?

Imagine my surprise today when I went to Coupons.com to look for a coupon and received a “Special” offer to join the Coupons.com Saving Club for $3/month or the special savings of $30/year.

Huh?

The offer promises:

  • Higher value coupons
  • Early Access to Coupons
  • More Coupons from top brands using the Coupon Finder

Sometimes it is worth it to pay money to save…only time will tell if the Coupons.com Savings Club is worth it.

Anyone else received this? Will you be signing up?

New DataBar Barcodes on Coupons

by Briana Carter on July 6, 2011

Coupons 224x300 New DataBar Barcodes on Coupons

If you printed out the $2/3 Kellogg’s printable, you probably noticed it appears to be missing something. However, it is not. It is just a coupon with the updated technology.

Several of you have emailed or left comments to let me know you had issues with this coupon at the store. It is a legitimate coupon. However, it looks like it is missing the UPC but it is not.

In the long term, this new technology should improve scan rates and reduce your time checking out. However, in the short term, employees who have been trained to spot out the traditional coupons.com technology are going to be confused and possibly refuse your coupon because they think it is fraudulent.  It is frustrating when the coupon companies do updates without properly training companies and their employees. So you may have some issues with printables until the knowledge is caught up with the employees.

If you want to learn more about the changes, check out Frugal Finder’s post on the new Databar Barcodes, which he explains in more detail.

Ask the Readers: How to Stockpile with a $25 a Week Grocery Budget

by Briana Carter on February 8, 2011

I’m cleaning out my inbox and this is a question from a reader. She needs our help!  First, I would suggest looking at the 15 Days of Couponing and trying to set aside a small amount of her budget for stockpiling items each week. There are many free items or close to free items you can stock on each week including basic toiletry items, which we all use!

I’m relatively new to couponing, and to be honest, it’s all very overwhelming.  Recently my husband issued a challenge to me to save about $25/week on groceries, and staple items. (This is in order for him to be able to quit his second job, and be home more with the kids and I)  I realize that this is a very hard thing to do, and I know that it won’t happen overnight, however, my question to you is, do you have any tips that can help save money in the short term? I’m not someone to go out and stock up on items that we won’t use, and I know that a lot of deals may take money to make money on them, being in a one income household, the budget is pretty much stuck in stone.  I do use coupons frequently, however, despite not being brand specific, I usually don’t find the items that we need at all.  I thank you in advance for any help that you can give me…and thank you for your blog, it’s helped tremendously!

What are your best tips for her to stock up on items without breaking her budget?
