I’m excited to be partnering with ALDI and Marcy of Stretching a Buck to host a awesome ALDI Summer Twitter Party on Thursday, July 18, 2013 from 8 – 9 p.m. EST. We will be sharing tips on how to have fun this summer while saving money! ALDI has everything you need to have fun, relax & save money this summer. You can view the ALDI summer catalog, recipes, and other summer tips here.

{Gone} To kick this party off before it even starts we have a little pre-party fun with a ~~$10 ALDI gift certificate giveaway~~ so you can try some of the summer suggestions before the party. Subway sent us a gift card to try out this new sandwich. As soon as the gift card arrived my oldest son claimed it as his own! When the weather is decent and he is waiting for a game or a practice to start at the school he will sometimes walk to our local Subway to grab something to eat. Growing almost teenage boys basically eat all the time. So to get a filling, delicious, sandwich that is a SUBWAY FRESH FIT™ option for just $6 for a Footlong is great value for us.

He’s sort of a picky eater but does like barbecue so he really liked this sandwich. I’m not sure if it will replace his favorite turkey, chicken, bacon aka his meat sub as a favorite but he enjoyed it as a way to mix it up! Unfortunately for him, he has a mean mom that won’t upgrade his current phone which does not have a working camera. So, you are going to be left with the delicious mouth watering stock photo of the sandwich from Subway!

This makes them some of America’s “Most Loved” home, beauty, and grooming staples! Many of these items are on my personal most loved list as well!

I especially love the Olay 4-in-1 Daily Facial Cloths, which are perfect for travel and everyday use. When I’m traveling it’s nice to have these because they are compact and I only have to bring the facial cloths instead of bring a cleanser and eye make-up remover as the cloths cleanse, scrub, and remove oil and make-up like mascara or eye liner!

Tide to Go is another most loved item. It is a must for someone who is sloppy like me. For example, if I’m wearing a white shirt, I can guarantee that I will spill my coffee or lunch all over it. It’s nice to have a Tide to Go in my purse to help remove the stain before I’m able to get to my laundry room.

Subway Fresh Fit Kids’ Meals Gift Card Giveaway #kidsmeals

The Center for Science in the Public Interest in Washington D.C. just released the results of “Kids’ Meals: Obesity and Poor Nutrition on the Menu” report on the quality and nutrition of kids’ meals served at the top 50 chain restaurants in the United States. I’m not surprised that they found that SUBWAY® restaurants was the only chain to meet CSPI’s criteria for the entire FRESH FIT^TM for KIDS menu.

Of the 3,498 meal combinations investigated by the CSPI, 97% do not meet the expert nutrition standards for children’s meals and 91% do not meet the NRA’s Kids LiveWell standards. This is shocking and sad considering we as Americans eat out much more today than ever before in the past with almost half of our food dollars spent on restaurant foods. We have been working hard in our house to do effective meal planning to limit our dining out dollars to save money and eat healthier. However, it is good to know we can head to Subway and know there are plenty of healthy options for the kids.

All of Subway’s childrens’ meals include apple slices and apple juice or low-fat milk, which meet both the expert and industry nutritional standards. Subway is one of my kids favorite places to go to eat! My two youngest usually want the turkey with cheese and apple juice. It’s such a change of pace from burgers, french fries, chicken nuggets. Though, I have to hear “Eat Fresh” about fifty times each time we go.

Cottonelle Flushable Wipes Experiment + Giveaway

I recently had the opportunity to try out Clean Care toilet paper along with the Cottonelle flushable wipes. We normally buy a inexpensive brand of toilet paper that isn’t nearly as plush as the Cottonelle Clean Care toilet paper so it was a welcome change if you know what I mean! Other brands of flushable wipes fail to deliver but the Cottonelle flushable wipes leave you feeling clean!

To put the flushable wipes to the test, we did a Cottonelle flushable wipe experiment. At the Carter household, we decided to put peanut butter to the test. It’s smeary and messy and I was interested in how a dry paper towel would work versus a flushable wipe.

The flushable wipes come in a convenient container too!

I put a spoonful or so in two areas on a paper plate.

Then I used a dry paper towel to try to clean up the left side. I used a flushable wipe on the right side. You can see the difference! One more flushable wipe would have taken care of the whole she-bang over on that side! The peanut butter was just smeared around on the left side. If you think of this in another context – ewwww!

In summary, the flushable wipes do more than just smear the peanut butter smears.

Cottonelle has some hilarious hidden camera videos to show people that nothing can be properly cleaned without the combination of cloth and water. You will probably laugh out like I did! They do a much more fun job than my peanut butter smears. They are all great but I’m loving this one:

Lucky Leaf Strawberries & Cream Chocolate Muffins Recipe + Giveaway

It’s getting close to the day we declare our affections and do something special for the sweeties in our lives! There is no need to stress the perfect way to show your family love as Lucky Leaf has it covered! Simply bake some sweets for your Valentines using a little love and Lucky Leaf!

Lucky Leaf sent us over several pie fillings, a muffin pan and some bakery bags to get us started! I decided to try the Strawberries & Cream Chocolate Muffins, which are delicious!

Here’s the recipe:

Lucky Leaf Strawberries & Cream Chocolate Muffins Recipe

Ingredients

Nonstick cooking spray
Devil's Food Cake Mix (1 package 18.25 ounce)
21 ounce Lucky Leaf Premium Strawberry Pie Filling
3 eggs, lightly beaten
1 1/3 cup sour cream
1 egg, lightly beaten
1/4 cup of sugar
2 Tablespoons all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon vanilla.

Instructions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Lightly coat 24-30 muffin cups with cooking spray.
In large mixing bowl, stir together cake mix, Lucky Leaf Premium Strawberry Pie Filling, and 3 eggs until moistened.
Remove 1 cup of batter and set aside.
Divide remaining batter among muffin cups. Fill each cup about half full.
In medium bowl, whisk together sour cream, egg, sugar, flour, and vanilla until smooth.
Spoon small mounds of reserve batter over sour cream mixture in each cup.
Bake for 25 minutes.
Cool for 15 minutes.
Chill within 2 hours.

Mine turned out pretty good! Considering I’m not a master baker these were very simple!

Michael Angelo’s Super Sunday the Italian Way Party Pack Giveaway

The big game is coming up! Did your team make it? None of the teams I was personally rooting for made it to the big game. For those of you planning parties for this upcoming game, consider thinking outside the box for your game day menu. For example, an Italian themed party would really pull it altogether and be a little different than the normal wings & nachos!

Michael Angelo’s has many tasty products that you can purchase to save time on your party planning without sacrificing quality. Everything we have ever had from Michael Angelo’s is delicious! My daughter and I love the Veggie Lasagna and Eggplant Parmesan to note a couple of our favorites. My husband tells me the Meat Lasagna is also yummy. Any of these options would also be wonderful and easy to serve as party of your party. On these cold days, warm meals like these are nice and hearty! I’m starting to enjoy cooking a little bit more but when planning for a large number of people or just extra people from your norm, it’s nice to be able to splash in a few pre-cooked items to save on time so you can spend that time with your guests.

Consider something customizable like “Sandwich Bar” or a “Potato Bar.” These are great options if you have specific food taste or dietary restrictions. As a vegetarian, I love it those types of menus as I can leave off meat on my meals without creating a hassle for the host. If you created a “Sandwich Bar”, you could add in Michael Angelo’s Sausage, Pepper, and Onions for a delicious sandwich option. I’m thinking this would also be a nice topping for potatoes too. If you have vegetarians, throw in a veggie burger or two!

A party isn’t complete without a few fun decorations! You don’t have to spend a fortune to make your home look festive. You can turn your home into a football stadium by creating coasted from astro turf (from your local hardware store), cutting out football X’s and O’s as drink markers, and hanging pom poms from the ceiling. If you are looking for a sporty centerpiece, consider printing out a game day image on photo paper and glue around a plastic vase. Place white mums inside the vase – beautiful! I’m loving these simple ideas!

We’ve tried several tablets over the years and are owners of a couple of iPads in different generations. Nothing has compared to my iPad until we tried the Nexus tablet - which rocks! It also gets the 12 year old seal of approval, who normally says “this sucks.” You know typical I’m too cool attitude. The speed and graphics of this tablet have him excited about this tablet.

As a mom, I’m loving it because it has several cool features that I don’t have on my other tablet.

User accounts. I can set up accounts for each member of the household. They can customize their tablet experience to fit them and I don’t have to see all their games and junk downloaded in my account. I also feel like my email and other accounts have a little protection from the accidentally sending emails or deleting emails or contacts from my account.
Google Now. This is super cool. Basically, it will automatically keep track of package delivery, flight changes, weather, with just the scroll of a button. It saves me a little time when every second counts in the busy mornings.
Google Hangouts. I’m pretty new to Google Hangouts but you can have a video chat in a Google Hangout with this tablet. I’m super excited to try this function with the kids next time I’m traveling.
Play Store. You can download many free apps from the Play store. The first app I downloaded was the Kindle App. The pages turn super smooth on this app on the tablet.
Super Light and thin. I currently use a iPad 2 and the Nexus is thinner and lighter. I also have just a book cover, which makes it even lighter.
Sphere Camera. This is so cool and so easy to use. It makes taking a panoramic photo so easy by doing all the stitching itself. Snap pictures in whatever direction and the system does the work! I had a little fun below and need to play with it more!

My kids are going to love me this month as this one of their favorite places to eat. I love their veggie subs and the flat bread is delicious. This promotion is only for the month of December, which should fit in nicely with the crazy schedule we have coming up.

Just a little funny Subway story from last year…After a school program, we decided to head to Subway for dinner with the family. We got to the register to pay and both my husband and I realized neither one of us had our wallet. Oh my, talk about embarrassment. We didn’t even have any loose money in the car and I had completely forgotten my purse. We live about 10 minutes from Subway so there was no way we would feel like going all the way home to get money and then driving back. It would have totally negated the point of the easy dinner, right!

Our worse case scenario was going to be to have one of us head over to our friends house that lived a few minutes away and borrow some cash. Luckily, I was able to call my mom who had just left the school program (she was still talking to my grandma – ha!) and she was literally right in front of Subway at the time I called. Talk about great timing. Mom to the rescue!
