Take a wet (very wet..dripping with water) dishclothe, put it in the microwave, cook on high for about 2 minutes, remove (CAREFUL !! HOT !!)
Then you can just simply wipe out to clean the splashed dried food in the microwave….works great!!!Also when cleaning your windows…use newspaper instead of paper towels…less expensive, dosent get ink on your windows and gets ALL the dry dirt off !!! Good luck…

As I shut down the house each night, which involves turning off lights, checking the doors are locked, and then heading upstairs to my room, I wipe down light swithches, door knobs, and the stair rail with a cloth sprayed with disinfectant. It’s a time saving way to keep things looking neat and also keep germs in check.

I use old toothbrushes to remove the mildew around the tub and in the shower. Then paint around it with white paint. Makes tub look as good as new.

My best tip is to stay on top of things – sorting mail, washing dishes, sweeping the floor, etc.! And stay on top of your kids so that they help keep things clean too! This saves so much work and time later on!!

I save the envelopes that come in my bills since I pay my bills online. I then use the envelopes when I have to send stuff to school with my kids.

When my kids bring home all their worksheets from school I print my coupons on the back of them to save paper.

Here’s a tip for those that are forgetful as well as frugal. :)
If your laundry has set in the washer a tad too long and you don’t want to waste water and detergent by running it through a whole cycle again, just add some vinegar and run through the rinse cycle. Good and fresh as if you hadn’t forgotten about them in the first place! :)

I re-purpose mismatched socks as dusting and cleaning mitts. Just slip it over your hand and you are good to go. If your are cleaning something really disgusting; then it becomes a disposable cleaning mitt.
Virginia
Me, too! Plus, I do that with my kids’ socks and that makes them even more willing/excited to help out with the dusting. :)

I find for my house that wipes are better than paper towels. I can wash and reuse it once more and always use them in the kitchen.

I’ve been couponing and learning new saving tips by reading your blog this past year. It has helped me save an extra $30 per week on my groceries and cleaning supplies. It’s always fun to find new and creative ways to save! At first I printed a lot of coupons from the internet but now I try to use all my coupons from the newspaper to save money on ink and paper supplies.

My tried and true is simply to clean up after yourself right away. That way there isn’t a lot of messes around the house to have to catch up on.

Wash mildewed shower curtains in hot soapy water, rub with lemon juice, and let them dry in the sun

I let the kids churn their own butter from any left over whipping cream we buy for recipes! Just pour the left over cream in a plastic container that will be airtight to seal like an old Peanut butter jar, throw a couple of clean marbles in it and let the kids shake it up until it turns into butter!

Get your 2 year old and 5 year old convinced that it’s fun to clean the play room! they help you, keep all their toys in one room and it says clean lol! Plus they think it’s so much fun to “help” mommy w/ other chores…my 2 year old son loves doing laundry!!

My 16 yr. Old son has been a picky eater all of his life. The only frozen pizza brand he will eat is TONY’s. So last year for Christmas we bought him a conventional oven so when he comes home from school he makes himself a snack of a Tony’s single pizza.

I reuse the trays that come in TV dinners for paint trays or sorting trays for our 2 year old. Any laundry scoops and the plastic bowls that the icing comes in from refidgerated cinamon rolls, I reuse of water play. Any junk mail or exra advertisements that come in bills I just send back ripped up….This all helps make less trash in our household!!

Take all of those old broken crayons and peel the paper off. Place in heart shaped muffin tins and place in the oven. You can sort by color or put several colors in one slot for rainbow swirled crayons. After the crayons are melted, remove from oven and cool. The kids can help with this project. These adorable crayons make great party favors or can be donated to local shelters or children’s hospitals. I call them love crayons.

I have been washing containers from spices, parmesan cheese, etc. and giving them to my boys to play with. They LOVE it! They get so exctied when I give them something new to play restaurant with :)

My savvy tips, I make my own cleaner using 8 oz. ammonia, 8 oz. white vinegar, and 16 oz. water– it work GREAT! I make my own granola, bread and laundry soap. This all saves us a bunch of money, this is all BEFORE coupons, wala, husband is the only one working to feed and care for our lovely family of 7. In the crashing economy, we’ve been able to pay down debt by being extra saavy. Did I mention, his income has fell for the past 3 year as well? With God’s help, we’ve made it work!
Tami
How do you make your own laundry soap?
