One frugal idea I have : two years ago I saved all the valentines my kids got at school and then they made their dad and grandma a big Valentines Collage Card out of all of them with glue and stickers and crayons. My mom in law loved it and I think I saw a tear in my husband's eye (shh don't tell him!)

My husband and I have 5 daughters so I buy bags of valentine candy and look for candy on sale. I then get valentine bags, which are usually on sale 6 for $1, and put lots of candy in each bag. The girls love it!! It's a great gift and the girls feel appreciated on Valentines Day.

Frugal Valentine Treat: Pop some popcorn– no butter, but some salt. Once it is cool, cut a 14 x 14 piece of clear (or pink, if you have it) food wrap. Also, cut a 14 x14 piece of red or pink tissue paper. Place piece of food wrap on top of tissue paper. Next, place 2 cups popped corn in center of food wrap. Sprinkle a handful of red hots over the popcorn. Gather up the food wrap and tissue paper, making a ball of popcorn. Tie with a pretty ribbon and give to your favorite Valentine.

My favorite frugal Valentines treat is to buy some strawberries and a chocolate bar. Chunk up the chocolate bar in a microwavable bowl and melt in microwave. Clean the strawberries but leave the stem on them. Then dip the strawberries in the chocolate and place them on wax paper. Wait until they cool and tada a frugal treat for the whole family.

My favorite Valentine's treat is a love letter from my hubbie (one of the few things you can't get from Walmart!). If it has to be a purchased item, then Coca-Cola and Toblerone. So bad for the figure, but oh so good for my moral. :)

I love to write notes to those I love, not just a brief note, but a real letter expressing my love for those I care about.

I've also used scrap fabric to sew fabric hearts and then stuffed them with scrap quilt batting or fiber fill. I've displayed these all over the house. People love them.

I've also made a basked full and given them to my daughter.

buy 1 roll of choc chip cookie dough and 1 tube of red decorating frosting, roll dough out to make a heart shape, bake per instructions, then decorate with frosting after the giant heart cookie cools. very cheap and cute at the same time! if the heart shape gets disformed during baking, trim to correct shape. Happy Valentines Day!

My favorite thing to give away to family members is homemade crafts made by my boys. One of my favorites in to trace their hands on pink paper and to let them decorate the handprint with red and pink foam hearts then place magnets on the back to be used on the fridge. I make one every year. Then when my boys get older I will have to remember how big their hands were every year. Fun family project, cheap and something to always remember them by!

For Valentine's Day, I am going to make my husband his favorite meal, chicken enchiladas. I don't think I could show him any more love than to put my time and effort into a special meal. We both work full-time and have a toddler, so it is hard for me to make “homemade meals” very often. I was able to find the ingredients of this meal virtually free at the Kroger Mega Event last week!
