Have you ever wanted to have a fun movie watching marathon with your family on the weekend, but sadly couldn’t find the movie you knew you had? Organizing Your Movie Collection is actually a great way to know what you have, keep things in order and of course give your family a fun filled weekend event. We love snuggling up with our own home popped popcorn for a fun movie night, and keeping our movies organized helps that happen more often.
Organizing Your Movie Collection
There are multiple ways to organize your movie collection, so we are including all options. Each one s a great way, but all will depend on your family and personal needs. Whatever sounds like the best method for you is the direction you should go.
Sort By Genre
This is one of the quickest and easiest ways to sort and organize your DVD collection. Comedy, Romance, Action, Suspense and more are easy to quickly sort out into groups. Then all you have to do is arrange on your shelves as desired. This is probably the most common method. It makes it much easier to send your kids to pick a movie form their “shelf” of approved titles.
Sort Alphabetically
This can be very time consuming, but for some is the best choice. Sorting through every DVD in your cabinet and arranging alphabetically by title is great if you know exactly what movie you are going to watch. This is harder for families with kids to utilize since it makes it tougher for kids to find something family friendly.
Use Movie Storage Systems
Instead of housing on traditional book shelves, DVD’s and Blu-Ray’s often store easier on specific movie storage systems. This can keep them from toppling over and getting messy. Most DVD storage and organization units have slots or small plastic dividers to hold the packages in place.
While I have seen other methods out there, these are the easiest and most commonly used organization methods for movie collections. The benefit of organizing your movie collection is to give you better access to what you have in the future. This makes movie nights, occupying kids after school and more easier on everyone in the house.
