Filene’s Basement is relaunching the brand with opening of a new e-commerce website. This former brick & mortar store is a legendary bargain retailer that had a rich history of deals and discounts throughout the Northest, Chicago, and Mid-Atlantic states until the company’s closing in 2011. The relaunch of the store on the internet is sure to bring wonderful memories back to loyal customers.
Part of the rich history of this discount retailer was the annual “Running of the Brides” event, which garnered national media attention. This event is also what nurtured the love and loyalty of their most fanatic fans over the years. Filene’s Basement would stock thousands of gowns for this event and would discount them considerably. Mothers, daughters, sisters would line up the night before to be there as the doors opened to score a great down on a non-returnable wedding gown. I can imagine the excitement of the prospect of that perfect dress at that perfect price.
I bet you can’t guess where FIlene’s Basement got their start? In a basement, of course. Edward Filene opened in the basement of his father’s store in Downtown Crossing in 1909. It seems so many great things start in basements.
Filene’s Basement will be launching online in Fall 2015. FilenesBasement.com is a curated online marketplace with discounted, branded apparel, accessories, and home goods. All items will be curated just for you. I never had the opportunity to shop at one of the retail locations so I’m excited to see these great deals on the website soon.
Head over to Filene’s Basement to sign up now so you will be the first to know when the site officially launches later this month!
