Hi! ‘Tis the season to be fit! Working on your improving your overall health and fitness? BargainBriana: Kilah (that’s me) wants to help! This is the first of a series of posts on health and fitness called “Get Fit Friday.”
What was your New Year’s Resolution? Time.com mentions that getting in shape is one of the Top 10 Commonly Broken New Years Resolutions. Why? You already know the answer to that question. We get busy, tired, lazy, and where I’m from we just get too cold!
After a few years of exercising on my own I now realize that busy, tired, lazy, etc. are all just excuses. Now trust me, even thought I realize these excuses I still use them occasionally, but I never feel very good about it. I would rather just go. I finally understand that if I want to lose weight, eat better, or exercise more I need to make it a priority in my life. Do you make your overall health and fitness a priority in your life? Sometimes it may seem selfish to go to the gym every day or request certain foods, but that’s a measure you’ll have to weigh personally. Honestly, what’s your health worth?
My suggestion to you this week is to get down to the basics with your exercise routine. Just DO IT! Maybe it’s not your ideal situation- in a gym, with your favorite equipment, with good shoes, but those are all excuses too. Tonight, write down your health and fitness goals. Then, think about the specific steps you are willing to take to achieve those goals. Come up with a simple way to track your progress. Also consider potential ‘excuses’ and decide how you are going to reduce or eliminate those excuses, if you can. Be realistic, keep it simple, and always remain positive. If overall health is your ultimate goal and you’re trying, then you’re always winning!

thanks!
I couldn’t get the code NEWKICKS to work either, but $22 (with tax) is still a steal on these..since they had been $84.99! :) I opted to pick them up in store, and these will be great for walking now & walking with the stroller after May comes and goes! :) Thanks so much!
I can’t figure out how to do the in store pick up – do you remember how you did it? thanks!
I admire that you’re adding a new series!
I have never made exercise or weight loss as a New Years Resolution. However – a friend of mine did last year, and in March of 2010 she asked if I would help keep her on track and in doing so it became a competative thing between us. Since then she has lost 50lbs and I have lost 45! I started out weight almost 30 lbs more than her, and although she has reached her long term goal, I still have about 35 to go. So although I don’t make New Years resolutions, I am very excited to follow this series! Thanks for something new!!
AWESOME! I think competition may help some people! I go to a Zumba class and there is a competition for whoever attends the most classes in a 3 month period – with a shopping prize & new hair cut/color! While, I don’t think I’ll win the competition, I’m going to try for it because even if I’m a “Loser” on the contest, I’m still a winner if I’m going more than I was previously! :)Congrats on your success!
Great post. I would also add that if you are starting a workout routine as a New Years resolution to set realistic and obtainable goals. I have seen a lot of people that set really high goals and then get frustrated and quit when they don’t achieve those goals quickly.
bummer- NEWKICKS doesn’t work on those shoes.
