As an enthusiastic #SoccerMom, perhaps a little too enthusiastic at times, I’m excited to share this wonderful and heart warming story that happened over Mother’s Day weekend with the U.S. Women’s National Team members and their moms. My kids are involved in numerous sports but since I understand soccer, I tend to get a little more fired up for soccer games. It was the ultimate Mother’s Day surprise as the U.S. Soccer reunited the U.S. Women’s National Team members with their moms over Mother’s Day Weekend. On Satuirday night, as the team prepared for a send-off game vs. Ireland in advance of the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup, an ordinary team meeting and dinner took a dramatic and heart warming turn. The other featured guests were revealed to be the players’ moms.
Then on Sunday during the U.S.A. vs. Ireland game at Avaya Stadium in San Jose, California, they broke tradition. Instead of taking the field with youth soccer members to enter the stadium, the players walked out with their moms in a warming tribute to Mother’s Day and moms across America.
It is very encouraging as a sports mom of four children to see the moms honored at this game over the weekend. Moms try to attend every game, encourage their children, bring snacks, make sure their uniforms are clean and so much more that is very touching to see them honored in such a big way.
If you feel like getting a little teary eyed today, I suggest watching this video. It is so heart warming and shows how special moms are to these women. You will notice how quiet the room is before the moms enter then…laughter, cries of joys!
