How to Make a Sock Puppet

How to Make a Sock Puppet

When is the last time you played with a sock puppet? Has it been a while? If so, it’s time to make one.

Sock puppets are one kids’ craft that is sure to make your little ones smile. Even if your little ones are having a grumpy, no-good day, tickling them with a sock puppet is a great way to change their moods around in a hurry. Plus, sock puppets are really easy, fun and inexpensive to make. They don’t take a lot of materials, and you probably have most of what you need on hand already.

I’m sure you already know how to make a sock puppet–at least the basic version. You just sew a couple buttons onto an old sock, draw on a smile, and call it a day. Well, this craft takes things up a notch for a sock puppet that is seriously fun and special. We’re not using old white tube socks here (although you certainly can); we’re making colorful, furry, goofy puppets that your children will have a blast playing with all day long.

Like many kids’ crafts, this one will need to be done with adult supervision. Your children can pick out the materials and the puppet ideas, but you’ll have to be in charge of the hot glue gun to ensure that no little fingers get burned. Once the glue dries, however, your children can have a ball bringing their sock monsters to life, either with you, with their friends and siblings, or even by themselves.

Winter is upon us and your children are sure to get a touch of cabin fever before long. This sock puppet craft is a great activity to pull out whenever your kids start to go a little crazy. Make sure you have the materials on hand today–it might just be a sanity saver later!
