We still have our land line because we have had cell service issues in the past because we live in the “country”. We’ve had better service since we upgraded our cell phones and we only get around 10% of our phone calls on our home phone. We could save $50/month if we cancelled our land line phone.
Have you cancelled your land line phone? Do you regret it? Let me know as it is hard to let go of that “permanent” number.
We’ve been without a land line for about 5 years but we don’t have any little ones at home. It was hard to take the plunge but we have had no regrets. The good thing is we kept our land line phone number so no one had to learn a new number. You can do that nowadays so that has been nice. Plus, you can also get an online program that runs a phoneoff the internet so you could have one at home in case of emergencies. Good luck.
We ditched our landline over 4 years ago, with no regrets. We have good cell reception in our home, and service is reliable. We use AT&T, and most of our family do, too, so all those calls are free & use no minutes. We actually have 3 phones. My hubby has one, I have 1, and we use the third as a ‘home number’. It works well for when my son needs to talk (plus it allows us to limit his time on calls “You can’t use up all of our expensive minutes!”). We just changed from Cable modem to DSL (big rebate for doing the switch!) and you no longer need a landline to do so. It was really great. I

We got ride of our land line about a year ago and it was hard at first but you get used to it. The only thing that is bad is when you lose your cell phone you can’t call it to find it unless someone else is with you. Which is not very much for me. We saved $32/month!
We’ve been considering getting rid of our landline. The two major drawbacks for us is that it would then be long-distance for our nearby family and friends to call us and we can’t have our local internet service without their landline so we’d only be able to access the internet at work.
I thought I had heard in the past that you could pay extra on your cell bill to have your local number transferred to it so that might be worth looking into. Also, we have the option of satellite internet in our area so we could look into that as well.
By the way, I’ve been following you in Google Reader for a few months now and I LOVE your blog. Keep up the great work!
