Cheese is something that we love in our household. Grilled cheese, cheese slices, and cheese and crackers are all things we enjoy. I’ve always known that I preferred sliced cheese like Sargento Natural Cheese instead of the processed cheese slices. However, until I did a side by side test did I realize really how much better it is and the kids wouldn’t notice the difference on their grilled cheeses.
Sargento Natural Cheese is only made with natural ingredients: milk, cheese cultures, enzymes, and salt and never processed ingredients. It is naturally aged to perfection by professional cheese graders to ensure you are getting the highest quality cheese.
Let’s just take a look at the appearance….
Processed Cheese Slices – Looks shiny & slick
Sargento Cheese – Looks matte and natural
How About When You Touch It…
Processed Cheese – folds without breaking and is mushy. Since processed cheese is often pumped into plastic packaging and run over a series of rollers to form a slice, this makes sense!
Sargento Cheese – Breaks naturally and feels completely textured.
You can even tell the difference in the way the Sargento Natural Cheese and Processed Cheese Slices smell. The Sargento Natural Cheese slices has a strong aroma whereas the processed cheese slices almost smell a bit plasticy. (Is that a word?)
There is a huge difference between Sargento Natural Cheese (REAL Cheese) and Processed Cheese Slices, which is merely made FROM cheese and other ingredients. Sargento Natural Cheese come in a variety of flavors including Parmesan, Romano, Cheddar, Colby, Colby Jack, Swiss, Mozzarella, Provolone, Pepper Jack, Muenster, Gouda, and Havarti.
What about you? What kind of slice cheese do you buy (if any)?

LOVE Sargento Cheese and LOVE your Terrace Appetizer Plates – couldn’t help but notice since I am a Willow House consultant (formerly Southern Living At HOME) Have you seen the cool Portico Plates? They are RED, with the 4 different patterns and so unique! Thanks for a great blog!

Love your “side by side” comparison. I have tried to stop buying the “shiny” cheese, and only the natural cheeses. I love Sargento – theirs is one of the best!
BTW, I love your Terrace Appetizer Plates from Southern Living At HOME (now known as Willow House). I recognized them right away! I’m a Consultant and love that the colors are the same, but the patterns different on all 4 plates. Have you seen the red ones (Portico Accent Plates)? Pretty cool!
