Rosemary & Citrus Wood Butter

April 11, 2016 By: Briana Carter2 Comments

Make your own wood butter that is essentially a mixture of beeswax, coconut oil, and essential oils. It is perfect for cutting boards, utensils, and furniture.

If you are anything like me you have an assortment of wooden cutting boards and spoons on the counters, in drawers, and in jars. If you ARE like me chances are good that yours are well used and well showing much use and age-dried out. I often toss mine in the dishwasher to save time and sanitize but the high heat drying cycle leaves them dried and brittle over time. I needed a quick but lasting fix to condition them and keep them that way. I had seen it called wood butter, wood conditioner, spoon oil, etc… and decided that I had to try and make my own using what I already had on hand, of course my beloved essential oils make their way into this recipe as well! I chose these for their scent and antibacterial properties but you can use your favorite oil or combination of oils to create yours.

  • 3 T. Beeswax granules
  • ½ cup Coconut oil
  • 5-7 drops Rosemary essential oil
  • 5-7 drops Orange essential oil
  • Small jar with tight fitting lid
  • Whisk
  • Small pan

Directions:

Place coconut oil and beeswax granules in a small pan over medium heat, I purchased an inexpensive pan to use for just DIY’s like this. You can also heat in a microwave safe dish in 30 second increments, stirring each time until melted.

To use:
Scoop out wood butter with a soft cloth and rub into wood until absorbed, you can repeat this process on wooden spoons, bowls, and cutting boards.
