Full disclosure, Staples provided me with this Toshiba Laptop and RangeMax wireless router. All thoughts and opinions expressed are my own. To see their full line of laptops and tablets, as well as wireless routers, visit Staples.com
Recently the folks at Staples sent me a Toshiba Satellite C855D to review. Since the kids are always trying to take over my laptop, I was excited to get a computer that I could set up for them to use. Considering the cost of this laptop is less than many of the popular tablets on the market, it is a pretty good option for the kids to play games and do basic projects on.
This laptop is running Windows 8, which I’m a little unsure of. I’m still not confident in how it works but it seems to be more app based than the versions of Windows I’m accustomed to. Otherwise, this laptop seems to have all the features and specifications that most people would need to do basic computing and internet tasks including a built in webcam.
- AMD E-300 1.3GHz 1MB L2 Cache Processor
- 4GB DDR3 Memory
- 500GB 5400RPM Hard Drive
- 15.6″ diagonal display 1366 x 768
- Windows 8
One of the first things my youngest daughter wanted to do when I powered up this laptop, was go to JunieBJones.com and play games and print out activities. I will say this laptop powers up quickly! She was able to print out a couple of activity sheets with no issues. We had a little issues with the games in app mode but once I toggled over to the full version mode she was able to use the flash player. At time point, I’m still trying painfully to get used to Windows 8 but this old dog isn’t ready for the new tricks of it! :) I’m going to let the kids figure it out and teach me how to use it! I hate to say that I’m getting that age but there are some things I’d rather let them figure out – haha!
As a numbers nerd, I love the fact that this laptop has a numbers keypad on it. It’s really hard to find a laptop that has this option and it is something that my current laptop is lacking.
This laptop also has three USB ports. Something on basic laptops, it will be lacking in this area but this Toshiba has three and a DVD-SuperMulti drive (+/-R double layer).
This Toshiba laptop is priced at just $399.99 at Staples.com. It is currently out of stock but lucky for you, Staples stocks a wide range of affordable laptops and tablets. Look for FREE shipping + 5% back for Rewards members offers to maximize your purchase!
