As part of the 52 Weeks to a Organized Home/Life series, we recently organized the kitchen cabinets. Again, this is another area of my home that I was completely embarrassed about. The kitchen is such a center of our home as in many houses and it is important to me to get this room organized and back under control. It was a huge undertaking but it was well worth the hours I spent getting this space under control.
As you can from the pictures, I have way too much stuff shoved in the cabinets. It was time to start purging and organizing!
First, if you missed this post from Instagram, I shared a picture of a former trash can cabinet that we turned into a mixer cabinet. All you need is the Rev-a-Shelf kit and someone willing to put it in.
Another thing I am loving is lid storage racks. Lid storage racks can be useful for many things…
Storing actual lids. In the past I had stayed away from the lid storage racks thinking they would take up more space and it would waste space. So far, I’m loving it! It keeps the lids and one pan organized and isn’t taking up any extra space in the back of the cabinet. It actually opened it up quite a bit.
(I bought a couple off Zulily during an organizing sale but Dollar General also has similar racks for around $4.)
Organizing baking pans and muffin tins like I did in this corner cabinet. (Also, in this corner cabinet, I purged quite a bit of stuff and moved stuff that I didn’t use as often to higher shelves.)
I also found a way to use some of my command hooks by placing some inside the cabinets to hang small pans.
I also used command hooks under the kitchen sink for a small colander and a scrub brush…I didn’t want to let any space go to waste!
I purged more stuff from under the sink and it is much more manageable now.
I moved the bowls to a lower shelf so that the kids can easily access them….I also know, I still have too many mugs (10?) but I’m not quite ready to purge any at this time! I also moved my measuring glasses to this cabinet from a lower cabinet since I use them often – no reason to be bending over all the time!
Moving the bowls, gave me more room in this upper corner cabinet for my clear glass pyrex storage containers. I use these often when I take my lunch to the office. I used a kitchen shelf helper to help separate the lids from the glassware a bit more.
You will want to know to reach that upper cabinet shelf in this corner shelf, I have to stand on the counter and even then things could easily be out of my reach in that corner. I moved some items that I only use a couple times a year to this top level.
I removed about 3/4 of the plastic ware from this cabinet and left pretty much only the real Tupperware items. I couldn’t completely part with the plastic ware as I sometimes use it when I do freezer cooking so I put it in a storage container in the garage. I also tossed quite a bit of broken and nasty or lidless or lids that had no containers.
I then did a large purge of the glasses/cups/medicine cabinet.
The last cabinet I will share is the cabinet that is nearly impossible for me to get into – the dreaded above the refrigerator cabinet. This thing is high and our refrigerator sticks out a little too much that I can barely even open the cabinets without a step stool. I put duplicate stuff, summer stuff, and other stuff we only use a few times a year. Okay, I did put some stuff that I should probably purge but I just can’t let go of quite yet.
(If you are new, I covered the spice cabinet in the pantry organization post.)
This week’s organization challenge was a tough one as I spent quite a bit of time organizing my cabinets. It does feel so good that they are organized and everything has its own place. How are you doing with the challenge?

Is the cabinet with the medicines beside the stove/oven? If so you should relocate them, heat can really degrade some medicine and reduce its effectiveness.
