Pumpkin Spice Latte Sugar Scrub Gift in a Jar Mason Jar

This Pumpkin Spice Latte Sugar Scrub is an indulgent and skin softening treatment that you will want to make for all your friends and keep a couple for yourself.  The coffee scent will wake you up while the warm and homey smell of pumpkin puts you into a cozy fall state of mind.  This recipe uses items right out of your pantry. No more wondering what artificial scents and colors have been added in, you know exactly what goes in.  Inexpensive and fun this gift will assure you’re the hit of the parties- alone or placed in a basket with a scented candle and bath poof.  If you have friends with a sensitivity to perfumes and dyes, and  this scrub is perfect for them.

  • 1 ½ cups packed brown sugar
  • 1 cup coffee grounds
  • ½ cup coconut oil, olive, or almond oil

I wonder if people would hate me because I would rather this than to drink a PSL. This is wonderful combination. Thanks for sharing on the #HomeMattersParty . I hope you will join us again next week.

If you use dry coffee grounds it will last longer because anytime you introduce water to a home made product is reduces it’s shelf life by allowing more bacteria to grow. I like to add up to three vitamin E oil capsules (pierce open and squeeze into product) to further the shelf life by preventing oxidation. Honey and sugar are also bacteria inhibitors. But NOTHING can or will guarantee any specific shelf life from a product made in a non sterile home kitchen. Commercial preservatives and stabilizers can be purchased online but it’s an exact science that most don’t want to mess with and usually people make home made products to avoid these additives. Moral of the story- instruct gift recipients to use product within 2 to 6 wks as long as no water is added or introduced (ie in the shower- two weeks if used in the shower). Your gift tag could say something like: “All natural and Preservative Free. Don’t be shy, use me up then beg for more!” Or : As this is an all natural product there are no chemical preservatives to extend it’s use. Please use with in 2 weeks while I’m fresh!”

Can anyone tell me how long this lasts before you can no longer use it? I’m concerned about expiration, molding, etc. I would love to make this for a friend, but I don’t want to give them something that is going to smell bad or start rotting if they don’t use it quickly enough. Thank you!!

I can’t wait to try this, but I too have the same question as Tammy. Do you use “used coffee grounds” out of the filter after you have made coffee, or does this recipe require fresh coffee grounds before they have been used? You use this in the shower, correct? Over all body scrub? Just want to be sure. I have never made this before, but want to try it out! :)

You can use either, used or fresh !

I notice in the recipe, it calls for “coffee grounds” but it looks like it’s really “ground coffee” in the recipe, right? Coffee grounds is what comes out of the filter basket after the coffee has brewed. Also, is this scrub just a general all-over scrub? Thanks for the cute idea!
