While not everyone homeschools, we feel this week of Organizing Your Homeschool Portfolios is worth mentioning. These practices can help homeschooling parents, as well as parents of any school aged child. Everyone has test results, school paperwork and of course end of year test results to keep track of. These same methods can apply to any school aged child and their needs.
Organizing Your Home School Portfolio
Create A Binder For Each Child: The easiest way to create a homeschool portfolio that is functional is to create a binder for each child. Each binder should include a tab divider for each subject. This makes it much easier to separate important paperwork for reach subject for easy access.
Sort & Save Quizzes & Tests: The most important thing to keep will be tests, quizzes and semester exams. These should be filed away in your binder under the appropriate subject tab. You can also use sub dividers to separate these items under each subject if desired.
Purge Or Scan To Save Busy Work: Daily work, reviews and busy work of all kinds can be purged without fear. Rarely do state regulations require you to keep every single activity done. Instead, you can shred and recycle the paper, or you can use a scanner to scan into your computer and save digitally to refer back to as needed or desired later on.
Create A Ledger Of Test Scores & Grades: In the front of your homeschool binder, you will want to create a ledger that organizes your kids grades. Keep track of each subject, the individual test scores and of course the overall semester grades for each subject.
Organizing your homeschool portfolios may not seem like an important thing to do, but you’ll be surprised at how much easier it is at the end of the year if you have to submit them to your state education board. In the process of organizing your home, you have to include all areas that are important to your daily life, including homeschool organization.
