As the fall season arrives and winter is on the horizon, your lawn and garden needs are beginning to die down. Spending some time Organizing Your Lawn & Garden Equipment will help you tremendously when it’s time to get it all back out in the Spring. This will also let you know what may need to be updated or replaced.
Organizing Your Lawn & Garden Equipment
Winterize Your Lawn Mower: One thing you always need to make sure of is to winterize your lawn mower. This is especially important if you live in climates that will stay below freezing for long periods during the winter. You can do this yourself, or take to a local small engine shop to be done for you.
Purge Broken Or Unused Items: You’ve probably gotten use to this tip in our organizing your home series, but it is so important to remember in every aspect of your life. If you have broken equipment or pieces that have not been used in the last year, it is time to throw them away, donate or sell them to someone who can put them to good use.
Hang Garden Tools In Garage: Things like rakes, spades, gardening equipment and even garden hose can be hung easily from peg boards and hooks in your garage or storage shed. There are also great standing storage centers they can slide into that work great if you have the room. Clean them well before hanging up so you aren’t tracking mud, dirty and insects into your clean garage.
Store Pesticides & Soil Safely: One thing that is always a concern is how to store things like fertilizer, pesticides and bug repellent. We recommend finding some nice stackable storage containers to house these in year round. Child proof lids or even keeping them in a locked cabinet is even better. Safety for your children and even curious pets is most important.
Upgrade Your Snow Shovel Or Snow Blower: Now is the time to take stock of the yard and driveway equipment needs for winter as well. Make sure your snow shovel is in good shape, and that your snow blower is functioning and ready to use as needed. It may also be a good time to buy salt for driveways and walkways.
This is just another simple thing to do in organizing your home this year that will help make it easier to find things when you need them. Going through you outdoor lawn and garden equipment to organize, upgrade and declutter is a great way of getting your home in order this year. Eliminating broken and unused items saves space, and ultimately money. Having things stored properly will also give your home a cleaner appearance, and make it easier to access when needed.
