So we FINALLY made it to Meijer. I hadn’t been for almost a month and we had just been picking up basics at Marsh as needed. We had to go today as I had coupons expiring 2/28/09. I played the part of coupon fairy today and passed out coupons that I didn’t need. Even giving up one of the $5/1 Huggies coupons I printed last night to a lady with 3 kids – it made the diapers only $3.99/package and cheap training pants are fine for us since we are only using them at night as a precaution. I also don’t really need 15 boxes of Betty Crocker potatoes so I shared a ton of the .25/1 coupons.
One thing I hated was shopping on Saturday. I prefer quiet Monday nights. It is a mad house in the grocery store on Saturdays. Since we did brave the “Super Sale” we were able to also get in on the Dr. Suess Birthday Celebration. The kids acquired a few coloring pages, a activity book, and stickers! Sofia loves her stickers!
Here’s how we did:
Groceries before sales & Coupons: $179.12
Coupon Savings: $51.88
Meijer Sales Savings: $43.49
Used (2) Rebate Cards from previous promotions: $64.91
Total Out of Pocket: $18.84
54% savings (not including the rebate cards – total was $83.75 before the rebate cards)
A pretty good day! I will note we bought several items not on sale or at “rock bottom” price as they were “need” items – like the Downy Wrinkle Release Spray which is $7.49. (But that is a marriage saver since I don’t iron!) I wanted share my grocery savings with you because I’ve been getting several emails from readers disappointed in their savings. I’m not a 90% savings girl at the grocery and that is okay! Don’t try to compare yourself to others as you will get discouraged. We also purchased items like chicken tenders, deli meat, deli cheese. Items that were a little more costly but are items we can replaced dining out with. So it is impossible to compare my shopping trip to your shopping trip as you may need different items.
I could save more if I made a conscious effort to shop every week. However, it is hard to fit it into our schedule many weeks. Every bit of savings helps. So if you are new, don’t get discouraged. The savings will come as your stockpile grows. Your “needs” list will decrease and you can focus on spending your grocery budget on the rock bottom price deals to stockpile.
I also didn’t make it to CVS or Walgreens this week! I bet they missed me!

Sorry I asked the question on the wrong post–but I was wondering what are rebate cards and how do you get them?

Yea for you….sometimes we just buy without a coupon, don’t we? :) One time I told myself I was just going in to the store for 2 non – coupon items and would NOT take in my binder. Let me tell you….it was a hard shopping experience…hee hee
