Do you participate in sport activities at least 2-3 times per week? This element could be the ‘tipping point’ of your fitness regimens. Sports are crucial for mind, body and spirit. You’ll gain a mental escape, competitive drive, and physical leaps through sport exercises. There are many sports you can participate in at all ages including:
- Golf
- Tennis
- Slow Pitch Softball
- Running (Recreational or Competitive)
- Swimming
- Volleyball
- More! What sport do you still like to play?
I was introduced to True Sport at BlogHer’12 in New York City this August. This company is powered by the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency (USADA). True Sport promotes healthy competition, positive learning environments, and drug-free healthy lifestyles. You’ll find an endless amount of resources for parents, coaches, teachers, and players to help promote these attitudes.
As a daughter of a high school basketball coach, I think these are the kinds of programs we need to be emphasizing the most to our young children and their parents. Too often we forget as coaches, teachers, and parents that we are very influential to young athletes. The way we speak and act sends many messages (both good and bad) with a stinging depth. It’s important that we remain competitive yet understanding. We must decide to seek the positive even in the most frustrating situations and keep our composure in all circumstances.
The True Sport organization has highlighted behaviors, eating habits, lifestyle choices, and the roles which fans, coaches, parents, and athletes each play in competitive sports. When getting fit this season, I hope you’ll join your children and teach them great sportsmanship in a competitive atmosphere.
