I have a fun and super easy craft in celebration of the 4th of July. It is easy for kids and adults alike to do! You should be able to find all the supplies you need at your favorite dollar store. My daughter and I had fun doing this project. Hopefully your kids will feel the same.
It starts out with nine craft sticks. Paint the sticks before assembling! I promise you this is the way to do it because we tried assembling first and then painting. It didn’t work so we ended up scrapping our first draft.
Easy American Flag Craft for Kids
Supplies Need:
- 9 Wooden Sticks
- Red, Blue, White Acrylic Paint
- Hot Glue Gun
- Glue Sticks
- String, optional
Paint three sticks completely red. Paint 3 stick half red, the other half blue. Paint three sticks half white, half blue.
To assemble, fire up your hot glue gun. The hot glue gun part is for adults! Place two of the red sticks vertical, then line up the additional sticks horizontal. You know the order! (Red, white, red, white, etc.) You can have your youngster, push done on the sticks once you have the glue on the sticks so they will feel like they are helping with this part too.
If you want to be able to hang your masterpiece, hot glue a piece of kitchen string or another thick string to your flag.
If you want to add some stars, you can buy some of those white foam stars or cut stars out of construction paper. If you can find wooden stars in stores, you can paint those white and attach.
