Financial Safety Tips

January 6, 2010 By: Briana Carter1 Comment

I was recently sent a pamphlet with some tips on how to keep your financial information safe. I thought we could all use these tips!

  • Reconcile your statements each month. Check for unauthorized transactions.
  • Reports any suspicious inquiries or unauthorized transactions to your bank immediately.
  • NEVER give your credit card, checking information, social security number unless you initiated the call.
  • Look for the secure lock symbol in the lower corner of your browers before entering credit card information. There should also be a "https" indicating it is secure website.
  • Shred pre-approved credit offers, receipts, and any other information which has personal information.
  • Check your credit report every few months and look for anything unusual.

Any other tips?

Thanks, Bambi @ Star Financial Bank!

I would just like to throw this out there due to an experience we had. Be careful using things like paypal and ebay. My hubby had someone hack his accounts about 2 years ago. They tried to buy something causing him to need to close the bank acct it was associated with and put a fraud alert on the acct. He had to close his ebay and paypal also. Paypal was NOT helpful in this! They kept insisting they could not close the acct until the pending transaction went through, no matter how many times he explained that it will not go through, the bank acct is close with fraud alert on it. It took a few weeks to deal with it and nobody was ever charged with anything because of it. He also had several other problems with legit accts he had linked to that bank acct that gave him fees in the transition between the accts.
