new years eve safety tips

When you celebrate and ring in the New Year, you need to keep safety in mind. After all, who wants to start out the year in the hospital or dead? Check out these New Year’s Eve safety tips and keep your celebration healthy and happy.

Don’t Go It Alone

Don’t plan to go out celebrating on your own. For safety purposes, you need some backup. Ask a friend or two to go with you because there is safety in numbers. You can watch each other’s backs and help each other out in case there are any problems.

Pick a Designated Driver

If you think you might doing a little imbibing on New Year’s Eve, be sure to choose a designated driver. Since you shouldn’t be going out and alone, confer with your friends who are on board with your outing and see who is willing to act as the DD.

Moderation is Important

You may be tempted to over-celebrate and party hardy all night long. Keep in mind that moderation is extremely important. If you party too much, you may be putting yourself into a position of not being aware of your surroundings or in complete control of your own senses. Don’t overdo the partying so you can make sure you know what’s happening around you.

Keep Your Cell Phone On You At All Times

Make sure your cell phone is charged up before you go out on New Year’s Eve. Keep it on you at all times in case you get into a situation that you need to get away from and you need to call in help.

Pay Attention to Your Surroundings

No matter where you go or what you do, pay attention to your surroundings. Be aware of the people coming and going around and make sure you know your location. Use the Internet or GPS on your cell phone to check your location so you will know where you are at all times. Why? If you need to call 911 or call a friend to pick you up, you will need to tell them where you are at, so make sure you have an idea. Pay attention to street signs, landmarks, business names and the like.

Tell Someone Where You’re Going

If you have friends or loved ones who are staying home for the evening, or at least not going out with you, be sure to tell them where you’re going. Even if you’re not sure where you will end up, give your safety person the information about who you are going with and the location you are starting out at as well as the direction you are heading.

For better safety, text this person when you go to a new location so they are able to track your whereabouts if they need to.

Taking safety precautions on New Year’s Eve means welcoming the New Year with a smile and some fun instead of a trip to the hospital.
