Organizing Your Homework Station| {52 Weeks to a More Organized Home/Life}

Organize Your Homework Station

With school back in session, kids are probably beginning to be bogged down by things like homework and after school events. Organizing Your Homework Station can be key to their success during the busy fall months. Getting your home organized includes giving them the best tools to keep on top of their education requirements each day. These tips will help streamline their time spent doing homework, which will give you more quality family time together.

Organizing Your Homework Station

Set Up A Separate Area: Having kids do their homework in their rooms, in the kitchen or even in the living room is all acceptable as long as they are using a separate area just for that purpose. Being able to focus on just their homework is important. I recommend a simple corner of the kitchen or living room with a table or desk and their supplies as needed. This way you are handy if they need help, and their toys or TV won’t be a distraction in their bedroom.

Keep Separate Supplies: While they have school supplies at school, it is important to keep separate supplies at home. They won’t always remember to bring home everything from school that they need, so keeping a duplicate set of things like papers, pens, pencils, markers, crayons and rulers is a great idea.

Remove Distractions: Homework time should be a no distraction zone. That means moving their work station away from the computer, TV, game systems or even windows. If your child is easily distracted, it may be important to set their station up in a corner where their back is to the rest of the room. Removing distractions is a must to keep them productive and keep homework completed on a regular basis.

Keep A Schedule: If you have limited space and multiple children, you may have to create a schedule for who uses the homework station first. Some days there will be more to complete than others, so this schedule needs to be flexible. Grab a dry erase board, print a list or use a chalkboard to keep track of who goes first each day. This will keep the organized and knowing what their job is at all times.

Getting your homework station organized is really about establishing that you have one. How it is arranged, what it includes and where it is located is an individual choice to suit your family needs. With home organization needed to keep a busy family going every day, a great organized homework station is key to the success of school aged children taking care of their responsibilities.
