Five Reasons You Should Be Eating Garlic

Garlic is not one of the first foods that pops into our minds when we think about health foods but it should be. Garlic has all kinds of great benefits and can absolutely help your health profile out when properly added to your diet. In fact, there are few things out there that can improve the taste of your food and give you a health boost like garlic can. Don’t believe me? Well consider the following five reasons for why you should be eating garlic and you will see what I mean:

Garlic tastes fantastic

Pungent and hearty, garlic will excite even the most discriminating taste buds. There are few flavors that are as instantly recognizable as garlic. If you want to kick up a recipe, garlic is almost always a good option. The flavors are absolutely mesmerizing and seem to almost take on the flavor of the foods you are cooking. It is the perfect accent food.

Garlic is thought to help with heart disease

Heart disease is a huge epidemic problem here in the United States and abroad and garlic is thought to help with the good fight against it. Garlic produces allicin. This is produced whenever you prepare garlic naturally and cook it, and it is thought to be excellent for your heart health. Studies have shown that using garlic regularly can be a wonderful addition to your heart health.

Garlic is good at lowering blood pressure

The same properties that make garlic so good for your heart also helps with blood pressure. Garlic helps your arteries to stay supple and not harden. This helps with everything from blood pressure to blood clots and stroke. Garlic also thins the blood.

Garlic is highly varied in flavor and taste

Garlic is not always the overpowering flavor that most people think of. It can be soft and subtle as well. The key is to pick out the right one for the dish you are making. White garlic is not nearly as sweet as pink garlic. Pink garlic will also last a great deal longer. You can buy garlic in a jar, but the fresh stuff is much better and will pack a great deal more flavor.

Garlic can be prepared and served in many ways

In  general, the longer you cook garlic the more it will lose it’s flavor. Some folks like the powerful garlic flavor that is famous at expensive restaurants. If you want it strong, you need to have your garlic pressed rather than minced. Minced garlic is a bit softer to the senses and will still allow for flavor without the punch. Both ways are popular depending on the dish, but you need to consider this when working with garlic.
