Tips for Thrift Shop Decorating

When it comes to decorating your home, there are so many different styles and choices to think about, it’s very easy to become overwhelmed. Your home is the place you want to come back to and relax, unwind, and make memories with your children. Creating a space that defines you and what you believe in, is essential to that peace everyone craves. The best thing about decorating your home is that you can still stick with your budget, and end up with a place that has all the bells and whistles you are looking for.

There are several tips you want to follow when it comes to thrift store shopping and bargain hunting for your home decor. While there are tons of great finds that can be hiding on shelves, you are not going to fall in love with every single piece of decor. Thrift Shops hold plenty of treasures that you may not ever be able to buy in stores anymore, for literally a fraction of the cost.

1. Lamps

Lamps are a great purchase to make at thrift stores. You can easily clean up a lamp to bring light into dark spaces of your living room, or to be used in a child’s room to read a story. Sprucing up a lamp to go with the custom theme of your home is also an easy task. By getting a bright can of spray paint, or using modge podge to seal a unique pattern onto the lamp, you can create a specific piece that only you will have.

2. Vases

There are plenty of uses for vases and glass containers in your home. You can be traditional and place flowers in a vase to give some lively pops of color in a room, or you could even put in marbles bought at the dollar store to give a space a unique feel. There are plenty of shapes, sizes, and colors of vases at a thrift store. A fun way to make it yours, could be to use a glue gun to put some gems on it, or monogram your initials on the vase that will now sit on your coffee table.

3. Wooden Furniture

When it come to wooden furniture, you’ll find plenty of options at a thrift store or local donation store for a fraction of the cost of buying a new one. With some sanding, paint, and gloss, you can easily turn two stools and an old table into an art craft station for your children.

4. Look For Antique Classic Pieces

Keeping an eye out for classic pieces that will never get old, is perfect to do when looking for home decorations. There are certain pieces like mirrors, frames, pitchers, and tea cups, that could be repurposed and used around your home in ways you couldn’t imagine. These pieces can also be either cleaned up, or completely changed to your liking. The real gem here is that these items are unique, timeless, and can not be found anywhere else.

Decorating your home is a fun experience that not only creates a place that you love, but may even help you discover your style. Shopping at thrift stores for your home keeps money in your pocket while still letting you create the space you deserve.
