Gift cards are a very popular gift for Christmas and anytime. They allow the recipient to choose their own gift, but handing someone a gift card is a little on the not-so-exciting side of things. Part of the joy of gift giving is seeing the recipient’s face and reaction when they see their gift, but you can recapture some of that by being creative when you give someone a gift card. Check out these ideas for a little fun and pizzazz.
Christmas Ornament
Wrap up a gift card in Christmas wrapping paper, tape or tie a ribbon to the package, then hang it on the Christmas tree instead of putting it underneath. For a variation, use felt to create an ornament in the shape of a stocking, a tree, or something else. Create a pocket to slide the gift card into. The result: Two gifts — a gift card and an ornament for the tree!
Candy Tin
Find a small candy tin then place the gift card at the bottom. Fill the tin with candies and give it to your loved one. You might want to encourage them to actually eat the candy so they are sure to find the gift card!
Decorative Jars
Jars can be a great way to give a gift card. Decorate the jar. There are a few simple ways to do this that can result in a cool looking jar. Shred wrapping paper then fill the jar with the shreddings. Use craft paint to paint the inside of the jar. Cover the inside of the jar with school glue then fill with glitter and let dry. Fill the jar with raffia. Decorate the lid by painting or adding a piece of pretty fabric to the lid top. Put the gift card inside then tie a ribbon or raffia around the neck of the jar.
Candy Jar
Fill a jar with candy like M&Ms, Sweet Tarts or peppermints then stick the card down inside. Don’t forget to decorate the lid!
Candy Cane
Decorate a candy cane with a jingle bell, some red ribbon, and some greenery. Use felt to create a small Christmas ornament with a pocket to hold the gift card then tie the ornament to the decorated candy cane.
Hot Chocolate Mug
Find a cute, Christmas mug and put a package of hot chocolate inside. Add a small plastic bag of marshmallows and stick the gift card in the mug with the hot chocolate fixin’s.
Giving a gift card doesn’t have to be boring when you give it to someone. Look for ways you can dress up the gift card or give it with some flare. Add a little extra gift like an ornament, some candy, or hot chocolate and make the giving a little more fun.
