Five Hacks to Clean Your Coffee Maker

When it comes to coffee, many people are completely unaware of how much a dirty coffee maker can affect the taste. Some folks try to take care of the problem with good old soap and water and that can be somewhat effective. Many coffee makers are so dirty they need a deeper kind of cleaning. Some people simply throw them out when the staining and so on gets to a certain level. What a shame!

Five Hacks to Clean Your Coffee Maker

There are many different ways to get that coffee pot clean and you will be shocked at how easy it can be. Here are five awesome hacks to get that coffee pot clean as a whistle and making the perfect cup of coffee again:

1/4 cup of Baking Soda

Baking soda is one of the most diverse cleansers on the planet. If you want a beautifully clean coffee maker, simply mix ¼ cup of baking soda with water and run it through the machine. Rinse by running several fresh water cycles through the machine and you have an awesome solution!

Alka Seltzer

The bubbling action will work all kinds of dirt, grime and stains loose. You may be shocked at how much comes out of your coffee pot when you use this cleansing method. Be sure to rinse well or you will have some odd flavors going on during your next cup.

Denture Tablets

No scrubbing required! Simply plop a few denture tabs into some water in teh reservoir and you will be stunned at the cleaning action. Just like with the Alka Seltzer, it takes the scrubbing away and will leave you with a wonderful tasting cup of coffee. Rinse well before using again.

Vinegar

I am sure you have heard all about vinegar as a do it all type of product around the home and it applies here as well. Some folks dilute the vinegar and others put it straight into the coffee pot. Either way, the results are stunning. It sweeps away minerals, deposits, stains and anything else that might be getting in the way of performance and taste. Rinse well by putting the machine through several cycles of clean water.

Pinch of Salt

This simple solution is fantastic if you have a problem with bitterness from your coffee pot. When a pot gets used a lot or gets some age, the coffee can become quite bitter. Simply put a pinch of salt directly into your coffee grounds and the bitterness will go away without affecting the coffee flavors at all. This also works directly in the cup after brewing. The salt dissolves easily and quickly. Just be sure you are very limited as to how much you use.
