The New Year is almost here and I have been looking for ways to keep my family safe online. With each New Year, brings new worries of what may be lurking online. Whether it is spam from a hacker or lurking from a potential predator, you really never know what is out there. With 2017 right around the corner, I have made a list to help keep my family safe online.
Do electronic checks often
Many of your kids probably have electronics. Since my kids are getting older, I like to do an electronic check every now and again. This means that I take a peek at their phones or tablets and make sure there is nothing weird going on.
Keep the communication lines open
Talk to your kids about staying safe online. Don’t just assume they know how to stay safe on the Internet. Let them know that if they feel weird about a situation to come to you. They should also never meet with anyone they meet online or give out personal information. I would also keep a close eye on what your child is downloading. While all of this may seem over the top, you can’t ever do enough to keep your teen safe.
Have a central location for electronics
At the end of the day, you should have a place for all electronics to go. You can decide when it is appropriate for your child to have electronics with them. However, until that point, have a box or a bin in which the electronics are stored in.
