Holiday Decoration Organization

With the end of the holiday season in sight, it is time to start thinking about Organizing Your Holiday Decorations. From wreaths to tinsel and wrapping paper it is time to think of different means of storage, and how to organize your decorations for easy access next year. Whether you are keeping a theme, or use different items collected each year, these steps will ensure you keep them safe and sound year round.

Organizing Your Holiday Decorations

Purge Broken Items: While you hopefully won’t have any, it is time to test again and throw away any broken lights, ornaments or other items that are no longer useful. Items with sentimental value may be repaired or stored to look at but not use if necessary.

Store Wreaths In Bags: Wreaths are often one of the hardest things to store since they take up so much space in boxes. Put wreaths in garbage bags and use hooks to hang them from rafters or beams in your garage for storage. This keeps them dust free until next season, but also keeps them safe and makes it easy to store. If budget allows, there are great wreath storage boxes as well that can be easily stacked on shelves.

Use Tall Cardboard Boxes Or Garbage Cans For Storing Wrapping Paper: One of the easiest ways to store wrapping paper is to secure the paper by adding a rubber band or hair tie to the roll to keep it from unrolling. Place those rolls of paper inside a tall cardboard box or garbage can for easy storage. They can stand up in corners for easy storage. If using a box or can that isn’t covered, simply slip a garbage bag over the tops of rolls to keep them dust free. There are also some great wrapping paper storage boxes if your budget allows.

Organize Ornaments By Theme: Now is the time to sort your ornaments by theme. Some years you may want to go with a color or style theme. Separate ornaments by color, style and theme. Make sure to wrap carefully and label well for easy access next year.

Organizing your holiday decorations can be fun for some, but sad for others. The end of the holiday season can be sad, but it’s so much fun to go through things and recall memories as you put them away. Getting your house organized includes these little tasks as well. Not only will it make decorating next season easy, it will make things easier to put away in the future too.
