Getting out in the snow is one of the most exciting parts of childhood. For kids lucky enough to live near colder weather, there is nothing quite like heading outdoors on a snow day. When kids do get snow, however, things can quickly get complicated for mom or dad. What are these kids going to do all day long? Fortunately, there are some wonderful outdoor snow day games and activities that kids can busy themselves with. Here are some of the best ones:
Things To Do Outdoors On A Snow Day
Build a snowman
Of course you want to go outside and build a snowman. There are so many fun and cool variations you can try with snowmen. You can build them upside down, sideways, lying down or even in motion. Snowman building is not like it used to be. Give your kids a challenge!
Build a fort
This is a classic task that little boys and girls love. Making a nice, big fort out of snow is a great way to get the neighborhood kids together. Have them all join in and make a fort that will be ready for any Army. Then divide up the teams and move on to the next idea down below.
Have a snowball fight
A snowball fight is a ton of fun but it gets even better when you have a great fort to hide behind. Snowball fights are epic to a kid. It is the one time when they are allowed to explore their cowboys and indians urges in a safe way. Just make sure they know that no ice is allowed in those snowballs!
Make snow angels
For those kids that don’t want to enjoy the snowball fight, snow angels makes a nice, laid back option. In fact, you can make far more than snow angels. Challenge your kids to make all kinds of shapes in the snow. Dogs, cats and various other animals make wonderful choices.
Go sledding
This is a wonderful snow day family activity. Sledding has been around forever and it can truly bring the family together. Find a good sized hill that has an open area at the bottom and have at it! Just make sure you have no dangers at the bottom of the hill.
Play hide and go seek (Snow edition)
It might be an old fashioned game, but it still is a great deal of fun. The fun is only amplified when you add snow into the mixture. Playing hide and seek in the snow is much more challenging for the person hiding and the person seeking. Give it a try and you will see why it is a classic.
