How to Get Rid of the Post Holiday Blues

December 26, 2014 by Bargain Briana

It happens frequently: The holidays are over and you feel a little blue. How can you beat the post holiday blues? Check out these ideas to help you feel more positive after the holidays are over.

Volunteer

One of the best ways to feel better about your own situation is to help someone else. After the holidays are over, volunteer a little of your time to help out at a local homeless shelter, pet shelter, or other charity or agency. Busy yourself with helping others and you won’t have time to feel blue.

Get Extra Sleep

The holidays bring so much stress and busy-ness that chances are you haven’t gotten much sleep during the entire month of December. After the holidays are over and done, plan to get some extra sleep so you can feel rested and rejuvenated.

Take Stock of Your Blessings

Sit down and make a list of all of your blessings and things you have to be thankful for. Putting those things down on paper and actually seeing them in front of you can help you feel a little better about your situation.

Take a Day for Yourself

It’s easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of the holiday season and forget about yourself. That results in stress and stress can lead to having a case of the blues. If you’re feeling a little down, take a day just for you. Don’t plan to spend your time running errands for the family or for anyone else. Simply do something you want to do.

Visit a book store or go to the library. Take a hot bath and pamper yourself a little. Go on a date night with your significant other. Visit a local museum or other site. Go to the movies. Spend some time not rushing or following a tight schedule and see how much more relaxed you will feel.

Start a New Project

Start a new project to help combat those after Christmas blues. Start a new craft project, a building project, or something else to occupy your time and help you re-focus your thoughts.

De-Clutter Your Home

Sometimes when you’re feeling low, spending some time cleaning and organizing your home can help you feel better. Pick one room or one area of your home to start on then spend time sorting, getting rid of and reorganizing.

It’s easy to feel a little down and blue after the holidays have passed. After the stress of preparing for holidays then the high of actually experiencing them, it’s not unusual to feel a little let-down after it’s all over. Take control of your mood and outlook by re-focusing and shaking off the blues.
