Part IV of my series Ways to Earn/Save Money with Amazon – to coincide with my $25 Amazon Gift Card Giveaway – Be Sure to Enter every day for a chance to win!!! (Ends 8/31)

  • Part I: Amazon Affiliates
  • Part: IIa: Shopping for the best deals at Amazon
  • Part IIb: Price Protection
  • Part IIc: Shipping & Amazon Prime
  • Part III: Selling on Amazon

Amazon Reviews:

You can leave or read reviews. If there are many reviews it is usually helpful. Sometimes if there is only a couple of reviews it doesn’t tell you that much. I’ve also went against the reviews and bought something and was pleased. You just have to use your own judgment. They also have a star rating system. So you can see how many stars based on all the ratings.

Amazon Visa:

You can apply for a Amazon Visa to get $30 off your first purchase. You will also earn points which can be turned into Amazon Gift Cards. (I don’t advocate doing this unless you plan on paying it off every month.)

Wish Lists:

From the comments on the Giveaway, many of use already use the wish lists. This is a place where you can save items you are interested in for later. You can use this just for your own personal preferences, to give to others for gift ideas, or just list it on your blog so everyone can see what you want! (In case they want to be nice and just you something! Ha ha!!!) I’ve also seen charitable wish lists. You can order items that a certain charity needs. This is also a good idea if you run a charitable organization. You can also search for someone’s wish list, see items most wished for, most gifted, and top sellers.

Gift Organizer:

Under “Gift & Wish Lists” you can find a Gift Organizer. This is a place where you can enter in family members or friend’s name and birthdate. Amazone will send you a yearly reminder of this event if you would like. You can also find items you want to buy or have bought and mark it so you don’t forget who you bought what for! In addition, Amazon.com will recommend gift ideas based on things you have bought in the past.

Wedding & Baby Registries:

You can create or view registries in this section. Right now they have a baby registry deal going on (My thought on this is if you plan on buying some big ticket items on Amazon.com anyway, create a registry and then buy it through the registry!)

Congratulations on opening your registry with Amazon.com. We are happy to announce a special offer for all of our new and existing registry customers. For a limited time, if you, your friends or your family complete $750 of purchases in your registry we’ll give you six months of Seventh Generation diapers.

Gift Cards:

You can email a gift card, print from home, or send it by mail. What I also like is if you have a gift card, you can apply it to your account. So if I earn one through Mypoints, I will go ahead and enter it in as soon as it get. Helps me to not forget to use it or lose it before I can use it!

Penelope – Thanks for the tip about the spoilers! I didn’t even think of that! Usually, I buy authors I already know I like so I don’t worry about the reviews too much but that is something to watch out for!!!

Amazon reviews are really useful in helping to make purchase decisions, especially for electronics. But one thing to watch out for when you shop for things like movies and books is spoilers. Some reviewers will give you a blow by blow of a movie or book, so skip the long ones if you hate spoilers (I know I do!)
