Teachers probably get overlooked more than any other profession. Something as large as the safety and education of our children is in their hands, yet the rewards are usually in the little things for these teachers. Getting your teacher something special is a great way to show how much you appreciate what they do. Frugal Christmas gifts for teachers aren’t hard to find or make. Yet those gifts may mean more to the teacher than most people realize.
Pampering Gifts
Teachers don’t just work a 40 hour work week. They have after school functions, grading, and curriculum planning when they are not actively teaching. This doesn’t leave a lot of time for pampering. A day at the spa isn’t exactly an extremely frugal gift, but you can make a day at the spa for her reasonable. Make your own soothing soaps and bath salts to give to the teacher. He or she can use them at home when they have time at the end of a busy day. You might even create an entire basket full of homemade bath salts, soaps, bubble baths, aromatics, and even crocheted wash cloths. None of these things are expensive to make. All of them will be appreciated and put to use.
Organizational Tools
If there is one thing every teacher needs more of, it would be organizational supplies. With all of the books and paperwork they have to keep up with, there are just never enough shelves and cubbies. With a few pieces of wood you can make a simple bookshelf. You can even use old pallets to make a convenient bookshelf. Old crates work well as organizers as well. Dress up a few old items to make them useful as organizational tools for your teachers.
Stress Relief
Teachers have to meet the needs of students, wants of parents, and demands of administration. That is a lot of stress for any one person to handle. You can make a stress ball by sewing a small sack filled with sand or putty. You can also offer calming incense. You can even make a small zen table with a piece of wood, some sand and some small trim.
Gift Cards
Teachers truly appreciate anything that can help take the burden off their budgets. While they may not choose to use the gift cards for supplies, they certainly could if they choose. A general gift card to Walmart is a perfect way to say I appreciate you and still give them some flexibility in spending abilities. Gift cards are the perfect frugal Christmas gifts for our teachers!
Your teacher will appreciate any gift given. Don’t be afraid to offer home frugal gifts either. Every teacher appreciates the thought that parents or a student put into a gift. They know time is the most valuable commodity because they have so little of it.
