As we move through the year getting our homes in order, Organizing You Kids Bedrooms is sure to be on the list. We’ve all opened our kids bedroom door to see what appeared to be a disaster area of clothing, toys and endless hazards. A few simple additions to their rooms, some organization methods and you’ll find this problem is no more.
Organizing Your Kids Bedrooms
Buy Them Organizing Hampers: One of the biggest problems parents have with older kids especially, is the pile of laundry that ends up on the floor. Eliminating kids bedroom clutter is easy when you have a great two or three compartment hamper for them to put their dirty clothes into. These are great for sorting their darks, whites and delicates easily as they come off instead of piling up on their floors.
Use Multi-Sized Toy Bins: For younger kids toys are the biggest part of the clutter. Invest in toy bins that are functional for them and their age. Traditional large toy bins are good for little ones to put all of their toys into, but we prefer the varied bins in shelving units that offer easy views of their toys at a glance, while looking organized. Go for a neutral colored shelving unit and cloth bins for the tween and early teen years to disguise toys and give a more sophisticated look.
Purge What Isn’t Used: This one hurts the most, but is simply necessary. Years of gifts on birthdays, holidays and special occasions usually mean our children have far more than they need. Spend a few hours going through every inch of their room getting rid of all broken toys, books with pages torn out, and even clothes that don’t fit. Throw away what isn’t worth salvaging, and donate the rest. You may have some kids with hurt feelings, but it can also encourage them to take better care of their things in the future.
Use Underbed Storage: Whether it is for seasonal clothing, extra linens or games this is a great method of organizing your kids bedrooms. A few underbed storage containers can tidy up a room in not time.
Use Regular Chore Charts: For things like dusting, vacuuming and overall cleaning, make sure to set up a regular chore system. Even toddlers will have fun picking up after themselves for a sticker on a chart.
Getting your home organized this year doesn’t require countless hours slaving over new things. Tackling one project a week can help you to overcome your household clutter. This week focusing on organizing your kids bedrooms is a great task that can make you feel accomplished.
