{NOW CLOSED} Win It: Papa John’s Specialty Pizza Challenge $25 Gift Card (2 Winners)

Papa John’s has recently launched the Papa’s Specialty Pizza Challenge, where your orders help pick the winner! Over 12,000 recipes were submitted and these three with the finalists:

  • The Big Bonanza – Original crust with barbeque sauce, bacon, beef, ham, jalapeño peppers, onions and Roma tomatoes
  • Cheesy Chicken Cordon Blue – Original crust with spinach alfredo sauce, extra cheese, three cheese blend, grilled chicken, ham and onions
  • The Workin’ Fire – Original crust with traditional tomato sauce, parmesan/romano cheese, jalapeño peppers,  pepperoni and spicy Italian sausage

Papa John’s sent my family on a mission to discover our favorite. Last night, I headed over to our closest Papa John’s to pick up all three pizzas. I will say Papa John’s is one of the household favorites for pizza. They do have a tasty crust and use fresh ingredients and they are reasonably priced.

When we got home, my youngest son, who is six, was so excited to help me with the pizzas into the house that he dropped one of them and all the pizza came tumbling out. I scooped it back up and put it back in the box. So you think that pizza got trashed?

Think again. Good pizza on the kitchen floor for a few seconds doesn’t deter some family members. In fact, the dropped pizza was my husband’s (Bryan) favorite! **Though, all of these pizzas would make a tasty meal depending on your family’s specific tastes!

Which one was it?

It was….

Not this one – Cheesy Chicken Cordon Blue. The family verdict: Too many onions on this pizza. The kid were freaked out about the green stuff on it. For me, this would be a perfect pizza minus the, uh, meat. Take that off and I would love the spinach/alfredo sauce loaded with onions! However, take off the onions and Bryan would check it out!

It wasn’t the The Workin’ Fire. This was a spicy pizza even with the jalapeño peppers taken off. The kids did eat this pizza as long as I removed the jalapeño peppers and ate them. Because as my youngest daughter (4) said, “You are a veggie-tarian, you like weird stuff.”

The kids did mention it was spicy but consumed their pizza! For them, though, to even eat something that once had something green on it, is amazing in itself!

Ding, Ding! Yes, this abused pizza – The Big Bonanza – was Bryan’s favorite! He said it would be perfect sans onions. This one had all the meaty combinations, bacon, beef, ham. A meat paradise. For you barbeque lovers, just the right amount of barbeque sauce in lieu of traditional tomato sauce.

You must order your favorite specialty pizza by August 29, 2010 for your vote to count! Next year, I’m entering my own idea since veggie-tarian pizzas are not being represented!

  100. I’d love to try The Big Bonanza. So far my favorite Papa John’s is the BBQ Chicken Pizza, so I’d be excited to try this new one with BBQ sauce! And yes, we’d eat it after being dropped, too… unless our furbaby kitty cat would get ahold of it first. :-) And we’d take Bryan’s extra onions, too… yum!
