Most women open that drawer in their bathroom and hurriedly dig for the right lipstick in a jumbled mess of foundations, blush, eye shadow and lotions each day. Not only will it streamline your morning routine, you are sure to find yourself the owner of items you had forgotten existed. After you are done with this weeks home organization tip, you’ll be able to have fun playing with all of those great Pinterest makeup tutorials you have pinned on your boards!
Organizing Your Makeup Drawer
Purge Old & Outdated Products: While makeup has varied expiration dates, it is a good idea to purge anything you haven’t used in the last six months. If you aren’t sure the last time you used a product, it’s a safe bet it should go too. Unopened products are safe to keep around, but if you see them just sitting in the drawer, you may want to go ahead and toss them too.
Invest In Containers: You know those super inexpensive plastic trays and divider baskets in the office supply section of your local dollar store? Yep, those that come o2-3 in a pack are the perfect solution for bathroom drawer organization. Grab several that will fit in your drawer.
Sort By Use: Put all of your eye products together, all foundation and concealer together and all blush or bronzer together in divider baskets. Pencils and lipsticks or glosses can all fit easily into one of those simple long pencil box baskets. If everything is sorted by use, it makes it much easier to locate what you need.
Don’t Neglect The Brushes: Makeup brushes are great for making your makeup application look more professional, but they do need to be cleaned occasionally. Oils and dirt on your face can transfer to brushes creating skin irritations. Once a month (at least) rinse them out in warm water with your regular facial cleanser. Allow to air dry. Store makeup brushes in one of the divided trays, or more decoratively on your counter in glass container you have added colorful beads or rocks to. This gives you a sturdy way to hold them upright and makes it pretty too!
Cut out all the unnecessary products in your makeup drawer, and find your daily makeup routine streamlined and easy. Organizing your makeup drawer will not only rid you of clutter, it will shave time off of your daily routine. If you aren’t digging for the right shade of lipstick in a jumbled mess, you may have that extra 5 minutes of yoga you’ve been putting off for so long.
