What would you do if you had an extra $40 every week or $160 every month? Hmmm…. maybe go shopping for those pair of shoes you have been saving for? Or it would help paying down your credit card bill? Or maybe put that amount in your savings account towards your next trip?
Today we are sharing with you 3 proven tips to not only save $40/week, but also at least 4 hours of free time during your weeknights!
1. Prepare healthy snacks ahead of time. (saves $20 / week)
- Next time you are at the grocery store, pick up 2-3 types of fruits like watermelon, apples, berries or anything you love.
- At home, rinse them over and cut in bite size pieces and store in a large glass/plastic container.
- During the week, just scoop some fruits into a ziplog bag or a plastic container, and bring it to work/school next day.
- Healthy fruits on hand without having to wash, peel, and cut them every night. (Saves $10 compared to regular fruit trays sold at grocery stores)
- While at the grocery store also, pick up some celery, bell peppers, baby carrots or other vegetables for veggie snacks.
- At home, rinse them over and cut the celery and bell peppers in mini sticks. By buying baby carrots, you save time peeling and cutting carrots. (why not, right?)
- Mix all veggies together and put into separate 5 small ziplog bags.
- During the week, you’ve got healthy veggie snacks every day for work now. No need to wash, peel, and cut them every day. (And… saving $10 compared to regular veggie trays sold at grocery stores)
2. A method to always have ready veggies for cooking dinner during the week. (saves $10 / week)
- While cutting those bell peppers for veggie snacks, leave approximate a portion of 1 bell pepper and a handful of baby carrots aside. Cut a medium size onion in wedges. Store cut bell pepper, baby carrots and onion in a plastic container. This will be great for your next stir-fry night. No need to buy pre-cut stir-fry vegetables. Just come home and grab your ready to use veggies from the fridge. Heat up that pan and you are ready to cook.
3. Ready meats for stir-fry during the week. (saves $10 / week)
- Got a pack of boneless chicken breast? Slice a few chicken breasts thinly, divide the poultry in separate small ziplog bags. Label them and put them in the freezer. Next time you have a stir-fry night, just pull a bag of poultry from the freezer the night before. When you get home all you need to do is season your meat and get your ready veggies from the fridge. Heat that pan and let’s get dinner rolling! Everyone is hungry!
** You can use with steak meat, turkey meat, pork.
* The saving is compared to fully pre-cut food sold at grocery stores.
