Good Cook sent over the Sweet Creations Haunted House Cookie Cutter set for us to try out! I just saw these at our local Alco and had thought it looked like fun for the kids. It was interesting! :) I’m not sure what trick I missed but I had a really hard time getting our house to stick together! The kids still had fun laughing at me the entire time though.
I used the recipe included on the box and that was pretty simple! I was even careful to add the butter just as described – one tablespoon at a time! If I were to do it again, I would double that recipe and make more dough. The dough needed to set in the refrigerator for about two hours. Once that was complete, we rolled it out and used the cutter, which was super simple to do.
The front turned out great…
As I mentioned, I would suggest doubling the batch. We weren’t able to make all the pieces that you need to create the house with a single batch per the box directions. It could be because we were trying out the dough constantly? It was tasty!
This is one of the side walls – super detailed!
I had a really hard time getting the walls to stay together. I made Royal Icing per the directions I found online but it still wouldn’t stick together. While doing that, I broke the back of it and the whole house crashed…
So we had to fashion a triangle sort of house, which really stay together a bit better! Decorating was the most fun part! Halloween chocolate morsels, candy corn, icing – oh my!
Super fun – but it was quite a workout to get it stay together!
